Rivals Top 100 for 2011

Submitted by BlueBarron on

I was a bit disappointed last season to see no Michigan players in the Rivals preseason top-100 players. Now, I'm sure we'll see at least a couple. Who do you think we might see? Denard, Molk, any recievers? What about defensive players?

And for that matter, who do you think will not be in the top 100, but probably deserves to be?

This really warrants a title change, I thought the new Rivals 100 had been released.

Denard will certainly be there. Probably Martin too if they know what they're talking about. Maybe Molk. Centres don't get a lot of love.

I think just Denard and maybe MM.  I'm not sure if centers get lots of publicity in nationwide rankings.  I think Molk has be to be considered the top center in the Big 10 for him to have a shot at the list.  I have no idea about how good the Big 10 centers are going to be.

Molk was All Big 10 last year: 1st team w/ coaches, 2nd team w/ the media, with Brewster taking the other side on those two.  Both are returning.  Molk was also a Remmington finalist, so he's up there.  That said, o-linemen are underrated in these things in general as there's little to go on to think about individual performances, and centers are underrated among inemen.

I love Molk's attitude but, I'm not sure the new scheme will be a good fit for him.  He has struggled in the past when having to go one on one with bigger DT/NGs.  At 288 he's not very big and if Hoke is going to insist on going to mano-a-mano it might not bode well the center of our OL.

Centers often combo block with one guard or the other, no matter what offensive scheme is run.  Besides, Molk is the strongest offensive lineman on the team.  I'm guessing he'll pack on 5-7 pounds before the season starts, but I'm not too worried about him at all.

Yeah I think the title was a little off, but I'm guessing Martin, Molk, Denard and possibly Roundtree make it up there. But when it's 100 players around the entire country it's likely only a couple make it on there. Denard should at least be pretty high though.

I doubt we'll see many Wolverines on there.  There are 120 FBS teams.  And while a team like Tulsa or SMU or San Diego State is unlikely to get many players on a list like that, on average a team has less than 1% of a chance to land a player in the top 100.

Denard will definitely be on there, but consider that teams like Alabama, Oregon, USC, Oklahoma, etc. are bound to have multiple players.

Need to check your math there. An average team would have less than 1% of a chance to land a player on a list of 1. Since there are approximately 100 players in the top 100, the odds of an average team landing at least one player on that list is about 56.7% (if all players had equal chance and selection was random).
