You have never played, nor know the rules of hockey. The Canadian defensemen was pushing the USA player away from the goalie and the American player lowered his shoulder and drove into the goalie. That is as clear a penalty as you can get in hockey. The game was called very well IME, which is surprising considering it was an international competition. The one call that I feel was bad was the charging call on Della Rovere (sp?). That was a definite BS call, but didn't factor into the game one way or another.

the united states was so close... this has been a great game though, better than the new years eve game. sudden death overtime for a hockey championship...does it get any better than this?

I'm Canadian so I'm ecstatic right now but this is the 2nd U.S.-Canada game in a week that the U.S. should have won in regulation. No idea what will happen in overtime. Campbell is a huge reason why Canada isn't leading...

If we didn't lose every five years or so there would be no rivalry. Campbell played very well; Canadian goaltending bordered on the brutal. I have watched McRae and Carlson both with the Knights extensively and they are quality players.

The better team on this night won the game. I'm Canadian and throughout this game I thought we got outplayed, out hussled and out hit by the Americans. I have never been more disappointed in a Canadian teams performance at a major event. The goaltending was terrible, they didn't finish their checks, they constantly shot into the legs of defenders and their puck movement was atrocious. It is easy to forget, given the whirlwind of events that lead to overtime, that for most of the game Canada was outplayed. IME, the better team won last night and it was well deserved. Good for American hockey. This looks like it is turning into one hell of a rivalry given the last four times these teams played. On a side note, this was by far (IME) one of the strangest Canadian teams I have ever seen selected. Usually Canada has a wealth of big power forwards who drive the net and punish people in the corners. I would have thought, given that it was on the smaller ice surface, that we would have had a lot more physical players on this team. I was disappointed with their physical play throughout the tournament.

"It is easy to forget, given the whirlwind of events that lead to overtime, that for most of the game Canada was outplayed." Absolutely. That's something that no one has really mentioned in this thread, but it's right on the money. I was really (pleasantly) surprised at how much better, but particularly faster, the U.S. team looked through out about 55 of the 60 minutes of the game.

Short tournaments like this are one reason why I'm grateful for the NTDP. A lot of the US kids played there (something like 15 or so, not to mention that 7 of the players were on the US team that won the U18 title not long ago), so they have experience together. It's hard to bring together a bunch of kids and expect them to gel as a team in a week or two, especially when most of the kids are used to being superstars on their respective teams outside of this tournament. Also this tournament makes me sad that we won't get the chance to see Campbell don a Michigan jersey. Next year's team would have been silly good with of him in net.

It should be noted that the U.S. team also won the U-17 World Junior Championship. Things are looking good for USA Hockey! Chances that USA's men's Olympic team makes it 3 for 3? Ehhhhh, not so good.
