Dempsey was a complete non factor tonight, not suprising but a dissapointment. We still have a way to go to get to top tier. It was a good showing though. We'll be back!

They are committing almost the entire team up the field.  When you do that you get destroyed by counter attacks and they already got 1 goal off it quickly.  It wouldnt have worked with Belgium's skill to play this open for 90 minutes.

I am sure Belgium mentally relaxed there for a few minutes, we got a goal.  And now you are in the last 10 minutes of the game where the team down goes crazy and the team up just is in defend mode.

and you sit here ripping his handling of the time. Meanwhile you reference your experiene in American high school soccer and tepid interest from D-III schools as a claim of expertise.

It seems that logical consistency is not a strength of yours.

Entertaining final 30 minutes.  Very rough first 90 minutes.  We are still about 2-3 levels behind this type of team.  When teams bring in a Lukaku as a sub it's pretty telling.

What I love is we always have fight - we just need a lot more playmaking in the midfield.

We went this whole tourney with our best field player totally MIA. And our forward out almost the entire tourney.  Based on that we did fine.

Also want to say as a whole our defense played very very well.  They were the scary part of the team going into the tourney.

Highlights for future

Yedlin is 21.

Besler is 28 I believe.

Gonalez is 25.  That is 3/4 of your future defense.  If you keep Fabian as a defender (26) you have a consistent starting defense for another 4 years.

Outside midfielders need a lot of work.  You cant put Mix in because while fun on offense he cant be trusted defensively and is "soft" - Zusi and Bedoya will be 30+ in next WC.  Cameron 28, I dont see much upside.

Bradley still youngish (26) but yuck this tourney.

Unfortuntely Jones in 32 as is Beckerman.

Dempsey is 31 so might be done by next WC (35) - Altidore and Green still young.  Maybe Johannsan will be effective too by then.

So all in all our midfield will need a complete revamp due to age but defense and forwards we will be ok.  Hopefully the GErman system has some future Americans in the midfield.

GK we lose Howard unfortunately as well.

Wingers and target men.

If Germany's the endpoint there are no wingers. Width is provided by overlapping fullbacks. I know they're struggling with that this year because they're stuck with a back line full of center backs, but go back and look at prior teams. Look at Klinsmann's '06 team for that matter. All the midfielders are either central players or pseudo-strikers. Yedlin = Odonkor.
