OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - Movies & TV
SWENSON!
Just kidding.
What's your favorite TV or Movie car? Would you own it? With or without its magical powers? (EG, you'd love to own the General Lee, but it has to be indestructable or no deal or, You actually had a black TransAm with the license plate "KITTTTT" and you swear it talked to you once).
No talking about recruiting or ethics here, let's talk cars. The more obscure the better. Would you rather have Jake Ryan's 944 from "16 Candles"? or the U-Boat 928 from "Risky Business". These are the important questions of our time!

but it got destroyed. :(

Magnum PI Ferrari. For reasons.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:04 PM ^
Would you be able to grow and maintain the mustache required to drive such a vehicle?
January 26th, 2016 at 12:09 PM ^
Sadly no. But I do have a Tigers hat!
January 26th, 2016 at 12:09 PM ^
Though I'd heard it was a bitch to maintain, and not truly that fast. It is my favorite Ferrari body style.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:13 PM ^
It's a Ferrari. Of course it was a pain to maintain. But it totally give you an excuse to grow a mean mustach and rock a Tigers hat and Aloha shirts everyday.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:15 PM ^
are practically worth it by itself.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:14 PM ^
Routine maintenance involves dropping the engine out of the car. Also, modern camrys are faster. And yet...
January 26th, 2016 at 12:17 PM ^
Yes, but Camry + mustache = creeper. Ferrari + mustache = rich creeper. Oh God! I've ruined my own choice.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:19 PM ^
indeed.
Cars are half emotion. My wifes best friend had an early Saturn. She bought it because it was the only car she could afford out of college. She was a rep for Walmart and put 200K on it in 5 years. It never gave her any issues. She traded it on a New Beetle that had transmission issues and required a new engine at 50K.
I asked her if she might go back to Saturn, or maybe a Toyota. 'No. They just aren't stylish enough. I'll try another beetle.'.
Somewhere an engineer screamed that day.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:22 PM ^
I'd put them at about 95% emotion. Or everyone would have a station wagon.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:24 PM ^
Damn you! I daily drive an 06 Saab 9-3 sportcombi (fancy word for wagon).
January 26th, 2016 at 12:37 PM ^
Not entirely. I'm waiting to pay off the wife's Acadia so i can buy a new Mustang GT.
January 26th, 2016 at 1:19 PM ^
you would own a Jeep?
Thanks for the thread BTW.

Had the 2nd when I joined MGoBlog. Sold it in 2011. Story was in last week's TCT thread https://www.google.com/url?q=http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-talking-cars-tuesday-mulligan&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwjjt8uKkMjKAhUiv4MKHUOSDcEQFggGMAE&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNF9cr3gKxWZSLGJvAURCSOvw6yFYg

Had a 1992 Cherokee Sport that we loved, but sold in Germany in 2005. Looking at Cherokee again right now (thanks to the deer I hit last week that totaled my Volvo), but reliability warnings are giving me pause.

I burned 8 hours at the auto show with my buddy. The minivans amaze me. How you get any structural rigidity out of a box with 5 gaping holes in it and a long wheelbase is like magic. Or the pillars are filled with unobtanium.
The Camaro was amazing. I loved it. But with the rear visibility don't park anywhere where people under 4 feet might be within 10 feet of the rear bumper if you have to back up.
I love that car. But it's all emotion.

who wanted to get a 944 (nat asp) as he heard they had galvanized bodies and held up well. I too like the car. I think its a great look.
But we were both kind of taken aback when we realized we'd get dusted by some kid in a Civic Si.

Don't look at this list if you want to feel like old cars are fast. http://www.autosnout.com/Cars-0-60mph-List.php

Regal Grand National. I loved my 85 Caprice but I always loved Grand Nationals and Malibus.
Edit: It wasn't a tv car but oh well.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:08 PM ^
In the show 'Life' with Damien Lewis at one point he had a Regal GNX.
And yes, I love that car. Amazing what it accomplished for the day. Hell, the GNX, IIRC, could hit a 12 something quarter mile. That's like an 80's Hellcat.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:26 PM ^
because it was quicker and faster than the Corvette's of that era.
Bastards.

I've never clicked on one of these until today, and I'm doing it just to upvote and thank you.

You're missing out though
January 26th, 2016 at 12:21 PM ^
I don't even own a car, and I certainly don't pretend to know anything about them. I sold my car when I made an international move many years ago, and, even after long since returning to the States, I enjoy my car-free world.

(in my best Shatner voice) But which...... ONE!?!?
I mean, the Casino Royale DBS is cool, but it doesn't disappear like the Vanquish, nor does it have rockets...
January 26th, 2016 at 12:08 PM ^
That thing is worth a mint now.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:20 PM ^
Yep. But you are missing out by not having rockets behind the headlights...
January 26th, 2016 at 12:28 PM ^
by reminding you that the ejector seat in that thing is actually functional. Not a prop.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:39 PM ^
is so iconic. I'd take that car in a heartbeat.

Bond Lotus Esprit/submarine
January 26th, 2016 at 1:22 PM ^
Barbara Bach might have something to do with that. Also, the stunt drivers couldn't drive the damn thing, so a Lotus engineer became the stunt driver!
Initially, the designated stunt driver for the chase sequence involving the Esprit was unable to achieve the level of excitement the production team desired owing to the Esprit's significant levels of grip, and they quickly became frustrated with the lack of progress. Following an unsuccessful take, the crew asked for the car to be returned to their location, and with the stunt driver absent Lotus engineer Roger Becker, who had accompanied the Esprits to the set and was familiar with the car's handling characteristics, climbed behind the wheel. His brief performance in the car was so impressive that when he slid to a halt in front of the cameras, producer Cubby Broccoli allegedly instructed him to repeat the feat immediately, and he would ensure the cameras were rolling this time. Becker was subsequently hired to do virtually all of the stunt driving for the chase sequence.

would be the wagon from 'Better Off Dead'.
Though in truth I loved the Camaro the girl helped him rebuild. It looked awesome when they were done.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
The V8 Interceptor (Holden?) from Mad Max. Prior to Road Warrior modifications.
'The Blower man! The Blower!'
As for magic I love the driver actuated supercharger.
Maybe my first, and best, piece of automolove.
As a second I'd take a Cobra Daytona that was on an episode of the Monkee's. Can't remember which one.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:06 PM ^
I think I know the right answer. Batmobile.

January 26th, 2016 at 12:14 PM ^
Don't buy one. They're all kinds of slow/horrible cars.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:15 PM ^
As long as it can get up to 88 mph, that is enough.
January 26th, 2016 at 12:16 PM ^
January 26th, 2016 at 12:18 PM ^
You need roads to get up to 88MPH
January 26th, 2016 at 12:29 PM ^
I just need the $39,999.95 for the hover conversion to turn my car into a skyway flyer
