OT: Smile - 11yr old rocker shocks band & crowd
Purely for out-of-season entertainment value... Due to a chance meeting in an elevator, an 11 yr old is invited on stage in Missouri with a heavy metal band -- and the video captures something that should make you smile. The kid RIPS it -- the band is in disbelief, and they start some impromptu Van Halen.

So all you would-be rockers playing Guitar Hero -- the dream is alive!

Awesome video.

That was really cool. Kid could use a little more stage presence but he'll performing for a living no doubt about it. Really cool for the band to bring him up like that, too.

He is 11 years old and shreds. You want him to have stage presence, too? The fact that he didn't choke is more than enough stage presence at his age. His stage presence will be more than kicked in at 14. Give him a break.

I understand OT, but is this facebook now? Should we start posting pictures of our kids?
I kid, I kid, but really...

That was pretty awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I love the initial look of complete amazement on the faces of the band members too, and then they very quickly get into it as well and cheer the kid on. Very nice gesture and they've probably discovered a future member in the process, who knows.

I have played for over 20 years and I have played with some greats as well as seen some greats. This kid gets it. His timing will come with experience. But other than that awesome.

Man, I have been playing guitar for over 25 years. I have been in several bands and opened up for six different national acts. I have three solo albums. I will never come close to shredding like that kid already can at an amazingly early age. It just goes to show that some people have incredibly special talent that no amount of hard work can match... Thanks for sharing! (p.s. if you're interested in my newest one, check out "OldNewMe" on itunes...)

Is that you?

The kid is really good, but his ability at such a young age isn't as rare as some might think. With the advent of youtube videos showing step-by-step how to play guitar solos, there are many videos on youtube of kids, some younger than 11, some a few years older playing at a similar level.
Here's a video of a 9 year old:

And a 10 year old:

That just might be the most '80's rock band name ever. Frickin awesome.

Their discography includes such albums as Hole Patrol, Feel the Steel, and (the highly anticipated?) All You Can Eat.
Apparently, Smell the Glove was already taken.

With album titles like those, the band may as well change its name to Sex Panther.

60% of the time they rock every time.

FuckLion was already taken, apparently.

I've seen these guys 4 times and they are awesome. HOWEVER, they are about the most vulgar band out there. Look up the names of some of their songs to get an idea and a chuckle. Not trying to tell this kid's dad how to parent, but kids should not be allowed at a SP show. Just saw them in Royal Oak a few weeks ago and there were at least 10 different women brought on stage topless. It was great but just not the place for an 11 year old. That being said, this kid can shred.

Was thinking the same thing regarding the content of SP. Except that this kid must just have his groupies and knows how to work it.

But are awesome at it. The whole thing is a joke, but they make a good living with hair metal fans who either don't get the joke or don't care. Sample lyric from an 80's style power ballad of theirs, "Community Property" NSFW:
I would give you the stars in the sky
But they're too far away
If you were a hooker, you'd know
I'd be happy to pay
If suddenly you were a guy
I'd be suddenly gay
(Chorus):'Cause my heart belongs to you
My love is pure and true
My heart belongs to you
But my cock is community property
They are hilarious IMO

The kid has a gift....no doubt about it.
What was also very cool is the way the band's guitar player acted defferentially by kneeling down behind Aidan so as to not upstage him.

Now raise your goblet of rock. It's a toast to those who rock!

He's riffin it note for note, probably from a transcription. Id like to see if he is able to improvise at all...the singer tries to get him to trade licks but he couldnt do it yet at this stage of his development on the instrument.
