OT: Oscar Open Thread
I know there are some film buff around here (if anyone's hanging out in the off-season...it's been kinda bleak...), so those that are following along, want to comment on movies or awards, or react can go here. And your picks, if you have any. Mine-

Director and Supporting Actress seem iffy among the big categories. Art/Costume could go to Alice. The minor short film/foreign/doc seem as open as they've ever been. And it's been awhile since the favorite has actually swept the tech sound/sound/visual awards. So we'll see...

I think Fincher is going to get it for The Social Network.

He's the favorite. But it goes too much against history with the DGAs, and Best Pic winner hasn't taken director only 6 times. But this could be 7.

It might just win the pool for me. ;-)

Does anyone know where I can find a live stream of the ceremony?
I can't tell if the Oscars official site will broadcast the ceremony itself or just backstage stuff (I'm guessing just backstage stuff). I'm a pretty big noob about hunting down live TV streams.

Natalie Portman had a great year in 2010.
Also, she raps:

I love back to the future. I know a lot of people say Forrest Gump is Zemeckis's best film, but back to the future will always be my favorite.

Titanic...

kurt douglas is the man

It's funny. They brought in young hosts to reach a younger audience, when all they needed to do was reanimate Kirk Douglas.

I'm rewatching the UCONN game instead of the Oscars.
February 27th, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
That would have been 4 down, game over (acting worth 2 points).

Does any one get what Justin Timberlake was joking about?
February 27th, 2011 at 9:27 PM ^
That was about a guy named Banksy -- who creates subversive, politically tinged art in public spaces. He keeps his identity under wraps, so the joke was that JT is actually Banksy. Not that funny.
I didn't get her joke about how he "missed a spot" on the animation. Did anyone get that?

ta ta's .... tattoo or stick on? Very distracting
February 27th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
This is thread-worthy. Let's make it happen.

Are distracting.

I may have to do some further in depth investigation.

I'm watching Ghost Adventures that I DVR'd Friday. I'm DVRing the Oscars that way I can fast forward through all the crap and just watch the hotties and the folks who passed away...and say Oh, I didn't realize he/she died last year. It boils down to the fact that I am still bitter about the 1981 Best picture going to "Chariots of Fire" over "Raiders of The Lost Ark". Anyone with an IQ of two can tell you which of those two movies is better.

It's funny how these millinonaire celebrities give themselves award after award. Im proud of them. They dont get enough attention.
February 27th, 2011 at 10:34 PM ^
I'm just happy my mans Christian Bale finally won one.
February 28th, 2011 at 9:01 AM ^
Finally? This is the first time he's been nominated for an Oscar and he's only 37 years old. It's not like he's on the downside of his career.

Anne Hathaway was excellent but oh my, James Franco was painful to watch. He was so stiff.
February 28th, 2011 at 9:41 AM ^
I saw them interviewing him in the green room before the show started and he looked nervous, but I figured he was just being coy for the camera. Then the show started and you saw how visibly uncomfortable he looked out there and it was clear that he was out of his league with this gig.
February 28th, 2011 at 9:13 PM ^
I honest to god thought he was stoned.

robbery. the social network was definitely the best film of this year, and one of the best of the decade.
