OT: Oscar Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

I know there are some film buff around here (if anyone's hanging out in the off-season...it's been kinda bleak...), so those that are following along, want to comment on movies or awards, or react can go here.  And your picks, if you have any. Mine-

Picture The King's Speech
Director The King's Speech
Actor Colin Firth
Actress Natalie Portman
Supporting Actor Christian Bale
Support. Actress Melissa Leo
Animated Feature Toy Story 3
Art Direction The King's Speech
Cinematography True Grit
Costume Design The King's Speech
Documentary Exit Thru Gift Shop
Short Document. Strangers No More
Film Editing The Social Network
Foreign Film In a Better World
Makeup The Wolfman
Music (score) The King's Speech
Music (song) We Belong Together
Animated Short Madagascar
Live Action Short God of Love
Sound Editing Inception
Sound Mixing Inception
Visual Effects Inception
Adap. Screenplay The Social Network
Orig. Screenplay The King's Speech

Director and Supporting Actress seem iffy among the big categories. Art/Costume could go to Alice. The minor short film/foreign/doc seem as open as they've ever been.  And it's been awhile since the favorite has actually swept the tech sound/sound/visual awards.  So we'll see...

Does anyone know where I can find a live stream of the ceremony?

I can't tell if the Oscars official site will broadcast the ceremony itself or just backstage stuff (I'm guessing just backstage stuff). I'm a pretty big noob about hunting down live TV streams.

That was about a guy named Banksy -- who creates subversive, politically tinged art in public spaces.  He keeps his identity under wraps, so the joke was that JT is actually Banksy.  Not that funny.

I didn't get her joke about how he "missed a spot" on the animation.  Did anyone get that?

I'm watching Ghost Adventures that I DVR'd Friday. I'm DVRing the Oscars that way I can fast forward through all the crap and just watch the hotties and the folks who passed away...and say Oh, I didn't realize he/she died last year. It boils down to the fact that  I am still bitter about the 1981 Best picture going to "Chariots of Fire" over "Raiders of The Lost Ark". Anyone with an IQ of two can tell you which of those two movies is better.

I saw them interviewing him in the green room before the show started and he looked nervous, but I figured he was just being coy for the camera.  Then the show started and you saw how visibly uncomfortable he looked out there and it was clear that he was out of his league with this gig.
