I would write something about this article, but I can't. I feel dirty.

I saw this yesterday, and assumed it was *supposed* to be disturbing -- because the situation IS disturbing. As a former journalist, I actually thought it was a pretty masterful skewering of the media and the ways the media can use omission, vague quotes and carefully selected wording to paint a subjective picture.

does not have to be funny, to all those complaning this wasnt "funny" enough. without a doubt this, along with brian's piece, was one of the best things ive read on joepa's passing.

One of the better ones from the Onion, I would say.
Their stuff seems pretty hit and miss to me.

I get the tone and purpose of the piece, but it's still very inappropriate.

That some pretty bad phrasing given the current situation.
"How many people honestly get to fulfill their very deepest desires in life?" Sandusky said. "Let alone fulfill those desires over and over again, year in and year out, day after day, for decades? That's the kind of life Joe allowed me to live."
Hard to not take that the wrong way.

Satire is a blade to be wielded with poise and flourish. This was a blunt instrument to the face.

There are posters above who apparently didn't even realize that it was satire. So it wasn't that blunt.

"Ohhhhh..." (Once I got the "joke"), "OHHHHHHH!!" I don't think this as clever as it is brutally honest.

I think taking a different perspective than the mainstream public mourning for Paterno is a defensible position given the heinous crimes that were allegedly committed in his facilities. Plus it's a darn good piece of satirical writing. The truth hurts.
