Wow...

Honestly, I wanted Suter more than Parise, but after seeing those deals, I'm OK with neither of them being with the Wings.

Go after Nash and Bouwmeester.  Nash has 6 years left, and Bouwmeester has 2.  The combined contracts are less than Suter/Parise combined.  Bouwmeester's value is really low right now so I think he could be had for cheap, but his skillset is one that could thrive in the Wings system.

Wouldn't mind Keith Yandle either, but I think he would be tougher to get than Bouwmeester.

Out of curiosity, how do you know Columbus' asking price?

Anyway, Franzen is locked down to 8 more years at almost $4 per, is 32, and has never played a full NHL season.  The most points Franzen has scored in a season is 59.

Filppula is the most frusterating player on the Wings.  Last year was the first year he's truely had a really good season, but with signing Helm to a big deal, along with Filppula's expiring contract, makes Filppula expendable.  Combined, their contracts would be $6.9, while Nash's contract is $7.8.  So you get rid of Frazen's horrible contract, and still have almost $16 mil in cap space.  Paying $2.15 mil per season for Helm, that contract is not 4th line money.  He's going to have to move to the 3rd line center.

As far as Nyquist, and Smith goes, that's expected.  The Wings are going to have to give up prospects is any deal.  The thing is no one truely knows how good these guys will be.

And draft picks?  Honestly, the Wings haven't really hit on any of their top picks so far in the past few years.  They do better late in the draft.  Can't really say anything about Frk, or Jurko, but here's the past few top picks since Smith in 2007:

2010 - Sheahan

2009 - Ferraro

2008 - McCollum

All three have actually declined.  I wouldn't be opposed at all to the Wings getting rid of their top draft pick(s).

Honestly, if the Blue Jackets want Franzen, I would jump at the offer.  If Franzen could put together an entire season with a clean bill of health, I think he would have one of the most team friendly contracts in the game considering Hudler just go $4 mil per year.  Problem is Franzen is on the wrong side of 30, and is locked up untl 40.  I just don't see him being healthy for the next 8 years.  Detroit would get Nash, who is 4 years younger, and his contract expires when he's 34.  There's a lot of upside all around with Nash and his contract.

Any trade for Nash is going to involve Smith which is just asking way to much. He's gonna be a solid Defenceman, and if we trade him then we would have 4 guys under contract. As for Nash? If we're going to trade for offense I would rather go after Bobby Ryan. He's younger, probably easier to get, and I believe is more talented.

While Bobby Ryan is a solid player, he is nowhere near the level of Nash.  Nash was a top forward on Team Canada.  I'm not even sure Bobby Ryan makes the roster for Team Canada.  I agree it's not worth it to give up all those players for him but if we are talking talent, I take Rick Nash 100 times out of 100 over Bobby Ryan.

I understand where you are coming from, but do you really think the Wings are a contender without making a really big move? We were a pretty bad team at the end of last year, AND we lost Nick Lidstrom.

I think the Wings are a 5-6 seed again without any moves, which is fine. But if we want to contend we have to get a guy like Nash. Losing Nyquist would hurt, but I'm fine with shipping Franzen's arse out.

Think the wings new focus will be on signing Matt Carle and Carlo Colaiacovo.  Both are solid defensemen.  Another name you might want to look into is Alexander Semin who if he improves work ethic is a better pure scorer than Zach Parise.

I doubt they would ever trade him but I think Alex Pietrangelo from the Blues is probably one of the best Dmen would could acquire. He's 22 years old, has good size(6'4), and is a solid defender and moves the puck well. I would guess that the Blues need some depth scoring, but I don't know what price if any they'd request for their top D.

Whatever you can to get Shea Weber. Those of you who want Semin clearly are unaware of how that guy can disappear and how terrible he is off the ice.

worked for Pittsburgh after Lemieux retired...

The blueline is looking scary at the moment. Only five signed defensemen on the roster. If Holland doesn't sign a top four defenseman then we are going to be cycling two way players with the griffins all season.

tanking was accepted during the dead wings era...
