OT - 4/23 Tigers vs. Sox
In case anyone's enjoying some baseball today... Brad Penny with a very nice 6 pitch, 3 ground ball inning to start the game.
Kind of a somewhat important early season game - it'd be nice to get above .500 and keep this winning streak versus the Sox going.
Is it on tv? I have extra innings on Directv and can't find it anywhere...
It's on Fox's regional coverage. Depending on where you live you may have a different game on Fox.
Extra Innings isn't allowed to show the Fox games or any other game on national TV such as ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.
Its on regular Fox (not FSD) in Michigan.
ughhh i buy mlb.tv to be able to watch every Tigers game, and this is not the first time it's been blacked out because effing Fox chooses to have 4 "national" games.
stream anyone? i'd be forever in your debt.
Your best bet is to let MLB.TV know you plan to cancel unless they fix this problem. I've heard a TON of fans at issue with this before. They can't ignore it forever.
I don't think there is anything MLB.TV can do about it. I think it's a matter of MLB's contract with Fox and other national outlets which grants those outlets exclusive rights to broadcast the games.
I can't get Tigers games on MLB.tv because they are a "local team" in South Bend...
BUT NO LOCAL CHANNELS CARRY THE GODDAMN TIGERS.
It's as if I have a wad full of money, and I'm saying to Major League Baseball "take as much as you want, but let me watch the Tigers." And Baseball says, "F*&% YOU"
/angry old guy rant
That's the absolute truth.
What you don't know, though, is that they're touching themselves while they deny you.
I dont know how they are even at .500 right now, that lineup is awful and without Martinez its a bigger joke. But is there anything better than a sunny day, a beer, and a baseball game (besides tailgating in October at the big house), and watching Inge strikeout again.
Starting pitching baby. It gets the job done. And we've actually had a solid April defensively. The bats are coming around too - Fox just threw up a stat that said we're batting .390 with RISP in the last 6 games.
Slow starts always look worse when you were slated for a hot start. But we got off to a hot start last year and look where that got us? I'll take a slow buildup to sustained success beyond the all star break.
1-0 Tigers on a Boesch doubled followed by an RBI single from Raburn.
Penny looked amazing so far, only allowed one batter to reach, via HBP, through 4.
Avila with the 2-run triple.
Five straight Tigers have reached in the 4th. 2-run triple for Avila, RBI single for Inge.
Good. Good.
EDIT: Six straight Tigers have reached; Austin Jackson singled. Two on, still no one out.
Brandon Inge with a killer slide at home!
As a coach that slide was such a gut wrencher to watch. You teach players to never slide into home head first, but at the same time that was the only way Inge beats that tag. Granted, it was a "safe" head first slide in the sense that he could see the catcher way off to his left, but still, anytime someone goes in head first I shudder.
to take that slide any other way.
Keep it up Brad. Shaving his ERA under 7 too.
The rule for talking about those is the same as Fight Club.
"I'm not saying anything, but, uh... everybody should check out the Tigers game."
During the Verlander no-no, I was on th phone with my then-girlfriend (my current wife) trying to convince her to turn the game on. I finally had her hand the phone to a guy in the room, who promptly understood my exasperated cries that "Verlander is pitching in the 8th, and you should REALLY turn the game on."
and she doesn't even like baseball. Couldn't list more than three Tigers if you offered her a million dollars. GRRR!
Was too close for comfort too! Sorry if I jinxed it...in my opinion he threw 7 no hit innings and I now feel like a dick for counting chickens before they hatched.
had to go and do the same thing as well, by showing his stat line and highlighting the hit column. And then they mentioned it going to the next inning as well, brilliant.
A little different... they have to do that to report what's going on. Neither of the announcers actually said it.
EDIT: Nevermind, they said it. Idiot national telecast director caring too much about ratings.
an error. He clearly would have been out.
Edit: WTF they ruled that a hit, that has to be changed. That was a bad throw, plain and simple. He would have been out by 3 steps.
Fill a brother in on what happened?
down the 3rd base line. The throw was in the dirt and Cabrera couldn't pick it. He would have been out by 2 or 3 steps with a good throw. Bullcrap ruling, that needs to be changed after the inning.
Granted it wasn't a routine play for Inge, but he makes that play almost everytime.
Inge fielded a ball on his backhand deep and on the line. Long throw - one hopped Cabrera who couldn't come up with it. Would have been out by two steps.
It appears that Angry Michigan Secondary Hating God spends the off-season tormenting Tiger pitchers working on no-hitters.
going to find that official scorer and slap him silly if he doesn't change that call. The official scorer can change that call at anytime. I have seen it done before.
Edit: Apparantly the Tigers radio announcers need to be slapped to, they think it was hit. I don't see how anybody looking at that play could think it was hit. Just because it wasn't a easy or routine play does not mean it was a hit. If you would have been out by 2 to 3 steps with a good throw, that is not a hit.
Is Ozzie Guillen pissed at Edwin Jackson or something? Usually when a guy gives up 8 runs on 12 hits and has thrown 110 pitches, the manager will usually, you know, go to the bullpen.
EDIT: It appears that Ozzie finally decided to drag the bloody remains of Edwin Jackson off of the mound.
Nice to catch the Sox when they aren't playing particularly good defense, the pitching is bad, and they can't hit.
Guillen was the catalyst to the 5 run 4th, pulling the infield in, giving the Tigers 2 hits that would otherwise been outs to the shortstop.
8 in row over the White Sox, dating back to last year. Pretty nice to beat up on the Sox, considering the way they owned the Tigers before the last 8 meetings.
The thing that pisses me off about that ruling is that if Penny were to go the rest of the game without another hit, it would be the second no hitter that a Tiger pitcher would have had stolen in the last two years (Gallarraga's last year).
Good think MGoBlog got their opening day wish and Avila got benched, right?
gotten benched for? V-Mart is not good enough defensively to catch every day. When V-Mart gets back Avila will probally go back to sitting against most left handers though.
Well, part of the idiocy was lack of viable alternatives.
But yeah, most people said V-Mart, despite:
a) saying in free agency he didn't want to go somewhere that would play hims their principal catcher
b) Dumbrowski and Leyland saying they wouldn't do that
c) the idiocy of paying him all that money for his bat, and playing him at a spot he can't physically sustain
d) the fact he's not very good at C
I've been thinking the same thing for about the past week, but refrained from posting something, for want of coming off as a dick.
you've likely read enough of me over the past two years to know I have no such qualms
I get a kick out of your orneriness. I don't think your'e a dick, just a little abrasive at times. Been reading your posts since you came back as Chi2, myself getting a little peeved at all your sycophants slobbering over your return. "Chitown is it really you?". "Chitown you can't possibly know what your return means to me!!". Oh yeah good memories and you know I like my memories!
negged for not being a sycophant
this game wasn't avilable despite having Extra Innings. Anyways, Go Tigers!
Also, Chitown - remember when you said Nate Robertson was better than Cliff Lee? :-)
Hey, the book is not closed on Nate Robertson's career.
You've got to have some big, round, hairy balls to name your son Albert Albequerque.
