NIT?......CBI?
where do you stand on those tournaments? I dont think Michigan should thumb their nose at the CBI if it comes to that (hopefully it doesn't). It's extra basketball, experience and still a chance to end the season on a positive note.
Hopefully it is the NIT. If that's the case, will you be attending those home games?

let's go for it.

The CBI is the College Basketball Invitational.
Michigan actually turned down an invite in 2010. It has been around since 2007-08.
It's a 16-team tournament. The championship round is a best-of-3 series.

I'm not sure if that's officially true, but it is true in practice.
"The NCAA announced a revamped selection process starting with the 2006 tournament. Teams are no longer required to have .500 or greater records to receive bids. Even with this change, however, all teams receiving invitations for the NIT have had .500 or greater records."

This is 100% true and was even said during the game, and now in your sig. Since I noticed it's in your sig, I won't bother reciting the rule though.

Correct. It used to be a "rule" to finish over .500. But they removed that rule.
However, the selection committee still uses that rule as a guideline and no team under .500 has ever made the NIT.

and if you look at the NIT fields the last 3-4 years it's not common for an at-large to be at .500. There might be one team that is like 16-15 but most of the at-large bids are usually at least 3 or 4 games over .500

I hope this team plays any tournament that wants them. If they are in the CBI or NIT, it won't be as tough as what they face most of the time in the Big Ten. I want to see them gain some confidence and tournament experience for next year.

Fuck it. I say we are still going to win the big ten tournament and go to the ncaa tourney...
Yes, I have been drinking.... and I am just watching Dawkins Dunk and Spike's Trick Play on repeat all night long.... OT did not happen. OT did not happen. OT did not happen.

I have very high hopes for next year.
I hope they don't get used to losing - that's my only worry - but I am very optimistic about what this team looks like next year.

Wins from a play-in. Beat msu, osu, Rutgers, Nebraska, first round of btt, Maryland/Wisconsin and might get in

I tend to believe that, at this point, this team would have to win out to get even a puncher's chance at a play-in game honestly. Right now, best estimates for a team which accumulates 17 wins to make the NCAA Tournament is about 0.3% per TeamRankings. For 18 wins, that suddenly jumps to all of 6.0% for an estimated probability. Nobody really does the same detailed analysis for the NIT, I think, but I imagine there is still a realizeable shot at that one provided we do well the rest of the way.

We'll be in the NIT...... unless we have a miracle run to a B1G tourney title.
February 13th, 2015 at 10:22 AM ^
I agree . We'll grab wins against Michigan State, Northwestern, and Rutgers.
Walton will be back THIS year as well. I wouldn't even rule out us making a crazy run with him added to the lineup. Whether people want to admit it or not, we are a dangerous team that is bound to have some breaks fall our way. Those things eventually even out.
