Lottery is a joke. Worst team. First pick. I get the diving to lose but seems like this is managed poorly.

A team in the qualifying round of the 2020 playoffs has won the No. 1 pick.

Great liberal Canadian logic.  And they wonder why no one cares about hockey. Basketball is king in Toronto for this very reason

Holy shit this system is bad.  Way worse than the nba lottery.  What is the deal and why? When you are the worst team you shouldn’t have a 50 percent chance of being 4th — you should have a 75 percent chance of first and go down from there from one through four — so odd.

Oh man, it would be incredible to see the Rangers beat the Hurricanes to make the playoffs in the qualifying round and go on a run, the Hurricanes get the 1st overall which then goes to the Rangers as part of the Brady Skjei trade from the deadline.

Edit: shit, that scenario doesn't work out as they'd get either Carolina's 1st which they own or Toronto's 1st which Carolina owns but they can't get the 1st overall unless they lose in the QR and win the 2nd lottery. Oh well, this shit is fucking confusing.

This is the equivalent of the the New Orleans Saints losing in the first round last year yet picking first in the NFL draft. A complete joke Bettman has been for the betterment of the league.

The lottery system was trash before the restructured 2020 playoffs and qualifying round.

Now that a playoff team gets the #1 pick hopefully it provides motivation to change the system.

It's a crime against parity that the 8 qualifying teams had a combined draft odds greater than the worst team's odds. It was literally more likely for one of them to get it than Detroit.

I'm not against the idea of a draft lottery, but this system literally punishes you for being the worst in the league. I mean...Detroit had a greater chance of dropping to 4 than getting one of the top 3 picks. That's a bad system. Plus...Detroit wasn't even tanking! They really were that bad!
