Message Board layout

What do you all think about collectively asking Brian to consider making this into more of a bulletin-style message board? There isn't really a solid Michigan sports message board, and I think it'd be such a great upgrade to this site.

I would favor that. I really agree that a true Michigan sports message board is lacking. The format in that link is much easier to read. No offense to what we have here now, but I really don't like the layout of the comment threads. Three replies in and it gets very hard to read. Ones where you are able to quote an individual reply and all the posts are simply sequential are so much easier to read.

concur. something like that irishenvy one would be great. this is the best site for michigan news in my opinion, and would be even greater with a message board facelift.

Dont change it. I like the way it is. I hate the other style of message board and I think if we change it we are going to get more unsavory types. AND I HATE UNSAVORIES!

I think for the most part, this board is fine, but it really needs its own search function that doesn't incorporate the rest of the site (if the existing search function allows for this, I'm not familiar how to use it that way). I have a lot of trouble dredging up old threads.

Regardless of whether this board itself is changed, something should still be done about the lack of the go-to Michigan board. I just figured that since this is already a highly trafficked site (I think), it'd be an easier startup.

I dislike having to scroll around on my small outdated monitor, but that gives the blog a cozy underground feel. Can one change one's unfortunate drunken Mgoblog moniker without undue hardship? This didn't seem to be a problem in the haloscan days. Nell, I will always love Nell.

A really aggressive moderating philosophy and some dedicated mods keeps the trolls and the idiots out. The Buckeye Planet policy is to change trolls' usernames to the email address they registered with and let the more sadistic wing of the fanbase have at it. It seems....effective. It's certainly not the only answer, point being that if you moderate, the trolls just don't show up. If people want to have a more visible Michigan web presence without having the idiots gallery, it's not hard to shame them into compliance. I help moderate a very successful "the place to be" Red Wings site, and with the right standards it's easy to keep the board from being like the Scout boards.
