M Lacrosse vs Marquette 7PM (in Naples, FL)

Men's lacrosse is in Florida to take on Marquette in a spring break matchup tonight at 7pm.  Game will stream on the BTN+ Ocho so you probably don't get it. I, for one, actually have plans tonight but the lacrosse sicko that I am, will try to find a replay or extended highlights later.

Anyway, this is a big game for this Michigan team. Last year they were in the same position - playing Marquette in Florida on spring break - and completely laid an egg. Michigan came away with a head-scratching 5-goal loss to a Marq that team that finished 6-8. The loss came seriously close to jeopardizing Michigan's season. Like basketball, early games are hugely important in building tournament resumes and Michigan can't afford to drop this one. The Golden Eagles have a good season brewing and are at 3-1 but are coming off a beatdown at the hands of #1 Notre Dame.  Michigan will probably be hungry for some revenge, however.

Fun fact I'm sure you'll find amazing: the coldest 3 hours of my life were playing against Marquette in a night game in Milwaukee in March so it's nice they get to play this in Florida.

GO BLUE.

I played fur U-M Lacrosse 1971-73. We were a club then,  coached by Bob Kamen and Bob DiGiovanni. Won 2 midwest club lacrosse championships. Lot of grad students from Eastern powerhouses like Cornel,  Yale,  Rutgers,  and Army. So happy to see this team elevated to varsity status and heading for equality with the best in the nation.  BTW, any alums out there from those early '70s teams?

That was a great game.  We really came out firing and it really could have been ever more lopsided.  We seem to have added an elite feeder and elite inside finisher since last year.

And I just love watching Justin Brown dodge.  Nobody can stay with him and it’s not particularly close.

For anyone familiar with Clark Bell, he photographed last nights game and posted them.

If my memory serves me correctly, Michigan has played Marquette twice in Milwaukee. A win in 2022 and a loss in 2019. In either case, this means we have a former player (quite recently) from the varsity squad who should be doing breakdowns of every game (where viewership is actually accessible) just like there is for hockey, football, and basketball. Unless you played for JP in the club days, but if I recall correctly Marquette didn't have a club program before going D1, in that case, you STILL should do game breakdowns!
