[LOCKED] Michigan W Gymnastics assistant coach arrested for public sex with freshman gymnast, resigns
Very shocking and sad.
Scott Vetere (39), a 10-time All-American gymnast at Michigan in the early 2000s and now former assistant coach for the Michigan Women's program, was arrested on October 8th in the parking lot of an apartment complex after being caught with an 18 year old Michigan gymnast in a parked car engaging in a sex act.
“We learned about an incident with Mr. Vetere on Oct. 10 and suspended him that day. He resigned from his position on Oct. 15 during our disciplinary review process.”
Svoboda said he “can not comment” on the identity of the 18-year-old student.
U-M athletic department policy bans coaches from having romantic relationships with athletes.
Vetere is married and has daughters per his MGoBlue profile.

Abuse of a position of power, extremely poor judgement, and a correct resignation/termination.
But does anyone really find this shocking? Assuming this was not an assault, and the article doesn't mention anything about that, I don't really find it all that shocking. Disappointing for his wife and family for sure, but not shocking.

Shocking maybe not, but disappointing that someone employed by the university is a total piece of unethical garbage.

I'm curious, does this get the same reaction if it's random freshmen and not a gymnast?

No because there isn't the coach/athlete power dynamic at play.

Probably since it was a student. Many articles I saw didn't even mention she was a gymnast, just a student.
