Labor Day Games Open Thread
On tap for later tonight is the big one, Boise State vs. Virginia Tech. Right now Maryland is leading Navy 14-0.
I've liked Navy but have not been as big a believer in them as many others. Most of their wins come against the bottom third of 1-A competition. However, most people thought Maryland would be in or close to the bottom third of 1-A teams. The only reason they weren't firing Friedgen is for money reasons.
I know it's early in the game and the season, but is Maryland not going to be terrible this year?
My ESPN Streak for the Cash pick said that Navy would win by more points than Maryland scores TDs + FGs. We'll see how that works out.

Okemos, MI. Figured the death pit of EL wouldn't stretch out that far. Guess not.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:45 PM ^
I'm in Wisconsin which is further away. I've got Dish Network. You shouldn't have that much of a delay. Wierd.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
They are not looking like a #10 team right now. O line getting blown all over.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
Huge 3rd down for VT.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:34 PM ^
Rushing 3 on 3rd and long?????
September 6th, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
HUGE sack...momentum shift?
September 6th, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
What a sack by VT. He came in untouched and crushed the QB. Then Boise gets a 20+ yard run on 3rd down to make it a 4th and 1. Conservation of greatness.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:43 PM ^
Running into the kicker.
I'm going to blame the Halloween uniforms.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:39 PM ^
What a moron. There was no need to touch the punter.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:41 PM ^
VTech is making a lotttt of stupid mistakes.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:42 PM ^
Hmm, why do I get the feeling that we're going to see at least one late hit after Moore gets wrecked
September 6th, 2010 at 8:43 PM ^
I usually associate VT with good special teams. They are playing "special" tonight.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:45 PM ^
but absolutely would not want to play them.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:45 PM ^
Man. I might be playing video games a little earlier than scheduled. Tech did not come ready to go for this one. Props to Boise for the fast start.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
What a catch. That is a great catch.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
That right there is a touchdown. I would hate to be a Hokie right now.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
This is absolutely embarassing, even for Virginia Tech. To choke this damn early is pathetic.
You were at home in FedEx. Your fans were everywhere. And you lay this damn goose egg on BSU.
BSU is NC bound. Fuck it. So mad.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:02 PM ^
September 6th, 2010 at 9:04 PM ^
What's bad about it is that BSU only has to play 1 or 2 real games all year long. That shouldn't get you into the championship game.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM ^
What he said. I don't want a team that has a huge cupcake schedule playing in the national championship.
They beat VT and OSU and they are basically in. What a cakewalk.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
Wow. What a catch! It's going to be 14-0. Still lots of time for VT.
edit: 17-0.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
Gallarda doing his best Kevin Koger impression.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
I don't think that's a catch. It looks like he reaches down his stomach to secure possession after he's already out on the white.
Now, I also think that it probably won't get overturned. It's really really close.
Edit: Yep, call stands. I disagree with the call, but probably not with the decision to not overturn. Indisputable is a high burden to meet.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
I get the feeling that Miami and Florida State are licking their chops right now.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
Braylon, is that you?
September 6th, 2010 at 8:49 PM ^
This is turing into a repeat of the Oregon New Mexico game. Anyone think they can score more than 72 and top Oregon?

September 6th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
Tyrod Taylor getting tracked down. Denard easily gets a first down there.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:53 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing. Denard is quite a bit faster than this kid.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:57 PM ^
2 first downs in a row. Small victories.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:58 PM ^
Taylor justs stands there and doesn't throw a block for Williams when he cuts back.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:01 PM ^
I'm guessing he doesn't want to get hurt and all that...
...But I bet his defensive teammates would all get fired up if he gave a massive blindside block to one of those Boise players.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:00 PM ^
VT now making some noise. Down at the 1.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:04 PM ^
Ah nothing like having Herbie's words thrown right back into his face. "You hear that BCS?" Sure did. Sounded like a touchdown.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:05 PM ^
I just realized that I have about a 5 minute lag as compared to some of the posters here. My HD broadcasts always have a delay but this is long.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
That explains my issue. Figured it had more to do with satellite but that makes perfect sense. HD always lags much more. I guess I never realized it was THAT much more.
On a side note, how impressed is everyone with the Boise D so far? They are just swarming! Very well coached team to get that out of all those 2 and 3* players.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
Way too many special teams mistakes. Thats one to not take advantage of what momentum you were building.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:15 PM ^
Accidental double post disregard
September 6th, 2010 at 9:21 PM ^
Honk! VT has very un-special teams.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:26 PM ^
Fumble!! If VT can cut the lead to 6 here, this will take them into half time with all kinds of momentum.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:29 PM ^
Good to see VT show some PRIDE
Make it a game again
September 6th, 2010 at 9:29 PM ^
Uh oh. Here comes VT. 20-13.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:33 PM ^
Have to say - if the game ends up going south the uniforms are enough to hold your attention for a while.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:34 PM ^
Brent Musberger lives in Montana? And he leaves there? But...why?
September 6th, 2010 at 9:36 PM ^
that vatech d is finally swarming the ball.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:37 PM ^
I used to root for Boise in these games because they are David but I dont really feel that way anymore.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
Wait, why is that legal?
September 6th, 2010 at 9:40 PM ^
If you get some of the ball, it's ok to hit the punter.
September 6th, 2010 at 9:40 PM ^
I assume you are referring to running into the kicker. That is legal as long as the ball is tipped.
