Is it strange there has been no comment about Fitz' injury yet?

Submitted by cypress on

If there has been, I apologize for missing it, but I havent seen anything official about what exactly his injury was. If we knew the extent of his injury, we could probably estimate a timeframe on his return. As it stands, I guess his status for next season remains unknown?

HIPAA applies only to covered entities that accept health insurance (it is a health insurance law after all). I would guess that the team trainers/doctors don't accept insurance or the players sign a waiver giving the coaching staff access to their health records in regard to injuries (just a guess on my part). Either way Hoke wouldn't be bound by HIPAA. Student privacy laws are a different matter.

There have been statements. His leg is broken. He has had surgery. He is expected to recover fully for next season.

What I think is strange is that you expect to see his medical charts. None of that is any of your business.

“Number one, Fitz had surgery. Went very well. Saw him yesterday. Should get out of the hospital today, and should have a full recovery, and we’ll move forward and he’ll move forward.

Do you expect him back for next season?

Hoke: “Yes. Yes. Hope so.”

Has he started rehabbing yet?

“He’s started some rehab work, yeah. He’s on crutches still, but he’s smiling. He’s excited. They think it’s going to be really really good recovery.”

If only there were a way to search for information on the internet...I bet someone could make some money if they could make that a reality. Oh well...I guess we are stuck typing random website addresses into our computers and asking other people on message boards when we have questions.

It looked like a tib/fib fracture Its actually more common than you might think. Takes a while to rehab and regain flexibility and strength though. There isn't a whole lot of tissue down there protecting the shin area.

I broke my tibia and fibia right above my ankle in highschool.  I had minor surgery to fix a growth plate but I was back to normal in about 3 months.  As long as there is no ligament damage he will be fine.  He will obviously have to rehab to get the strength back, but its not like an acl injury.  Once the bones are healed it's pretty much back to normal.

I broke my fibula right after college (it was like the day after finals) along with having a major dislocation on my ankle (all my ligaments snapped); after surgery they had me walking in a boot within 2-3 weeks and from there it was primarily regaining my strength. The major issue was the in the course of the month that I was off my feet I ended up losing almost all the muscle mass in my leg. The joint is a little messed up, but it's fully functional. By the look of it Fitz's injury was similar and I'm guessing he'll have the same kind of recuperation time.

Sure, someone who broke their ankle once isn't a doctor. Any post guessing a timeframe is going to be speculation. But if you're upset about speculation then you might not enjoy any recruiting posts or game previews either.

Knowing an injury is a fracture or tear does give some insight on time, even to us laypersons. Could it be wrong? Sure. Sometimes a 5-star turns out to suck, too. None of it matters til it actually happens, but people speculate. Sports.

Edit: person I replied to disappeared, and I look crazy. Pretend I put a picture of a cat here instead!
