Hoke is the new DC at Oregon. As per Feldman on Twitter and commented on by our Dear Leader.

Good for Coach Hoke - he is basically a good guy and a Michigan Man in the best sense. Hope he does well. Curious to see if Oregon becomes better on defense - most of the so-called high octane offenses somehow never were paired with decent defenses.

The 97 National championship, recent Sugar bowl, and this year’s DLine are dead to me!

Damn anyone who takes their dream job and unfortunately fails!

Brady unfortunately was not great at all aspects but he has had many contributions to UM including those outside when he was HC.

For Brady that Helfrich and the minds that make up the Oregon offensive coaching staff will run circles around him philosophically and expose him for not being a good X's and O's coach.

for defensive coaches. They consider it a good defensive year if they're like 40th nationally. There's a reason they had to go for Hoke who's really not in a position to turn down a lot of P5 jobs.

I'd say it would have helped Hoke's career a lot if he had become a DC 15 years ago because I think it would have given him practice of being in charge of a complete unit without the burden of being HC. It would have made him a better HC down the road.

Hoke is one of those guys whose strengths are quite apparent, he finds it easy to build a rapport with young guys, he can motivate them and instill the right values in them. He also understands and can communicate the fundamental concepts of what makes defense work,

His weaknesses however are roster organization, decision-making, performance optimization. Those skills are essential to be HC especially at a big program but they're also pretty big as a coordinator. Hoke is pretty old to take his first big coordinator job now. One wonders if it's too late.

This thread agrees with my overall view of people is that 80% are ok and 20% are assholes.

Someone fails at a job he loved and would do anything for which sucks for whatever reason.

With that there is a subset of assholes in this thread that believe the only thing to speak about is their failure and fuck that guy for trying something to better their life and live a dream.

On a completely separate topic regarding his qualifications, he has taken a demotion and by all accounts is an A+ recruiter and DL coach (national title) while having 2 previous successful stops as HC it doesn’t sound too bad. Considering Oregon’s defense has always been the Achilles heel of the offense then why not?

...wishing him well, and that the advantages of a supportive AD, a (hopefully) supportive fan base, and a little time off between gigs give him what he needs to succeed!!

Things didn't work out for you at Michigan, but you gave it your very best. You recruited very well. You and Mattison built one hell of a defensive foundation and, based on the performance and growth of the offensive line, apparently you recruited pretty well there as well.

Best of luck and, except when Oregon plays Michigan, I hope your defenses kick ass and, should you want it, I hope this leads you back to a head coach position at a quality P5 program.

Thank you for your service to Michigan.
