Happy Friday, Father's Day Weekend Thread

Submitted by nmumike on

First of all it is Friday, which is fantastic. It is my first Father's Day as an actual Father, so I am looking forward to that. What is everyone doing this weekend, and good plans with your dad and or kid?

I am going to the US Open as it is taking place 5 minutes away from my house!

Congrats.  This will be my 4th Father's Day.  Expect sentimental cards and maybe a Lowe's giftcard if you're lucky.  Father's Day is not all that special, at least not now while my kids are too young to know the deal...

EDIT: Well, my 4th Father's Day with kids.  It'd be pretty weird if I had such a polished vocabulary at age 4.

where I get to see the Ohio side of my family again. But first, I'm looking for the motivation to finish this term paper when I could not turn it in and still get an A+ in the class. First world problems, I suppose.

Congrats!  This is my first Father's Day as well!  Looking forward to a nice family get-together on Sunday.

Also, it's National Bourbon Day!  I plan to celebrate with a glass of Angel's Envy after work.  Prost!

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your first Father's Day. I'm hitting a local festival with my dad and my family tomorrow. Going to The Wilds for the first time with my wife and 3 yr old and 6 month old daughters on Sunday. It's a safari style wildlife sanctuary in SE Ohio (not the one where the animals escaped last year!). Should be pretty fun if the weather holds out for us. My wife also does a slideshow/video for me of my daughter's (I guess it will be daughters' this year!!) pictures/videos from the previous year. I'm so glad she does this so I can look back and see how the little one is growing. We rewatch them throughout the year too.

Let me know how that goes.  We have a family membership to the Columbus Zoo, but I've always thought The Wilds would be cool.  Are you staying overnight?  Isn't there some sort of a sunset package where they feed the animals off of your Land Rover or something?

I'll let you know. I guess they have five or so different tours or "experiences". We are doing the open air safari. They also have fly fishing, zip lines, horseback riding, etc. We have been Zoo members since becoming parents and they had an offer for The Wilds membership when we renewed our zoo pass this year. We aren't staying overnight, but it's about an hour and a half drive. It's only 60 miles from our house but there aren't any straight roads here in SE Ohio.(which is nice on my motorcycle!!, B-E-A-U-tiful ride to work this morning btw.)

Congrats to all the first time fathers! I feel a great sense of pride on Father's Day, and the first one really is special. Enjoy it fellas.
I'm taking the family to SeaWorld tomorrow, though I'm not really looking forward to high temp in the 90's and chance of morning showers (it rains every afternoon here, so it sucks when it rains in the AM too). Sunday, I think it will be a cookout/pool day. Really excited. Happy Father's Day to all the MGoDads!

For my kids anyway, the weekend - as well as summer break - was going to start today, but it in fact began yesterday because the storms that did roll through in the wee hours of Thursday took out part of a circuit their school happens to be on. So, they get an extra day of vacation.

This weekend for me is a busy one - tonight, I have the singular honor of making a small repair to my roof, so I will be able to see both the planes taking off from Metro as well as my neighbors pointing and staring from that position. Tomorrow, somehow my daughter was invited to two birthday parties back-to-back, so my wife and I will split duties and each take her to one. On Father's Day, supposedly I am to be presented with a card and various gifts - my kids chose the local Dollar Tree for their shopping, so these should be interesting gifts. My daughter even wants to make me a full English breakfast because she heard me reminiscing about them, or so my wife told me.

My parents are up in northern Michigan, so I will definitely give my father a call on Sunday to wish him a Happy Father's Day and ask him how the ongoing struggle to purge the garage is going. Supposedly, my mother finally grew tired of the old books, tools and golf clubs sitting just anywhere.

Happy Father's Day to the MGoDads!

I can expect 16 hours (round trip to Michigan and back) of smelly farts, scratching, crying, gnawing on bones and generally getting hair all over the place this weekend in my nice newly detailed car.

I should mention that my "daughter" is our 7 month old Labradoodle who has taken over our life as we have no family that live within 400 miles of us; just us and the pup who goes everywhere with us.

is working 3-11pm, so I will attempt to recreate either an In N Out Burger for him or #88 Amer's Georgia Reuben on Sunday for lunch.  Not sure which one....We got him a new golf bag and some shirts and I had Brady Hoke and Greg Mattison sign a picture for him last Saturday.  Hopefully he will enjoy the day!   Happy Father's day to all you Dads out there.  We Moms really appreciate you!!

Happy Fathers Day to all the MGoDads on here, especially the first timers!

Busy weekend ahead for me. Today I've got a half day from work so I'm going to catch Man of Steel this afternoon.  BBQ at a friend's house tonight. Saturday drive up to Wisconsin to visit my wife's family & celebrate Fathers Day with her dad.  Sunday drive to my Dad's house to swim in his pool if the weather permits or hit the driving range if its too cold to swim, then grilling and dinner with the family that night.

Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

First Father's Day here as well. A year ago I had no idea what being a father would feel like. All I can say now is that it's awesome. It doesn't matter anymore how rough a day I have at work or if Michigan basketball loses to Wisconsin in the B1G tournament.

As for this weekend, we'll celebrate "informally" tomorrow because by wife works Sunday. I think we'll brew a homebrew and then go golfing on Sunday. The kid loves the stroller on our local golf course.

I am the one that had twins on May 20th and put up a post.  Both of the twins are still in the NICU, but both could be coming home this weekend or in the very near future.  My son should be coming home tomorrow and my daughter i am hoping Sunday or early next week.

Should be an awesome Father's Day gift.

My grandmother had surgery to repair an aortic anuerism at UofM.  She had Dr. Deeb, who is world reknowned for the procedure.  A year later, she's back to 100%.  No small miracle due to the fact that her body temperature was dropped to around 60 degrees for nearly 8 hours.  Her heart was stopped for a large period of that time.  Her chest was cracked open like a rack of ribs.  And she's pushing 80 years old...

Thanks for the support.  I always take solace in the fact that I live near UM hospital in case something really bad happens to me or my family. The joke I tell is that we are truely blessed in Washtenaw County; there is Chelsea hospital which is super quick to get into if you break a leg, St. Joes which is great to have a baby at, and UM in case you have a disease they are going to name after you.

It's my first Father's day too. It's hard to explain how much I love my little man...just amazing being a Dad.

I've got a big mountain bike ride planned with some other Dad's followed by craft beers.

And the Army's 238th Birthday. Not a bad way to start the weekend. I'll be stopping by the LC to get some Founder's Double Trouble...

I gave orders that I be permitted to "sleep in" until 7am at which time I am to be group cuddled in bed by my 10-month and 3-year old daughters.

Dinner will be at Sidetrack (on me, of course).

My quadruplets are two weeks from turning five now so my house is like a three ring circus at the best of times. What I would like more than anything for Father's Day would be a nice quiet day where all my kids got along without anyone fighting, arguing or getting hurt but I know that is too much to ask given the circumstances.

I mean, don't get me wrong because I love my kids more than anything, but I ache for a day of peace and quiet. The other day I came home from work with a feeling of dred as my wife had called me at work three times that afternoon to tell me how badly the kids were behaving. As is often the case I thought she was blowing thiings out of proportion a bit, but when I got home it was literally like a zoo.

The kids looked like they were on speed or something and I walked into the dining room and one of my kids was on the table with one hand holding onto the chandelier...Seriously. Had I not walked in at that moment he would have literally been swinging from the chandelier...Honestly, I always thought that was just a turn of phrase people used when describing kids that were going a little crazy but he was literally about to take flight when I walked in.

I do love my kids and can't imagine a world without them but sometimes I do miss a little peace and quiet. Have a good one guys.

As I started to read your post I have to say I was getting the wrong idea, and yet just prior to reading "malt",  in the back of mind I was thinking "could you imagine if I got a 18 year old single hot chick for father's day....that would be awesome".  I would probably prefer a little older, but hey, that would be a sweet present (no offense to my wife who of course is the only woman I would ever look at....).

This will be my second Father's Day! The fam wants to take me out to dinner and celebrate with me. I'm an only child so I had pressure from my mom to give her a grandchild. No matter what day it is my son is the star of the show.
