Submitted by Boom Goes the … on

To observe a Marine is inspirational. To be a Marine, is exceptional...

To all those who have earned the title and have the privilege to call themselves Marine, I would like to say happy 241st birthday to all my Devil Dogs out there! Semper Fi brothers & sisters... Once a Marine Always a Marine!

My great uncle who served in WWII in Okinawa with the Marines just passed last week. Lived a great life going over 90 with all things considered.

7 relatives that served in WWII and he lived the longest.

At his funeral they had a full Marine service with taps being played and the flag being presented by active Marines generals.

I had two deployments out there when I was with 3/3.

I remember the humidity.  You couldn't take ten steps in any direction without being soaked to the skin, either by rain or sweat.

A high school classmate of mine is the commander of the headquarters battalion, 2nd Marine Division at Camp LeJeune.  I think he gets his star at some point in the next few years, maybe after he gets an infantry regiment for a bit.  Two colleagues of mine were Marines - an armorer and a radio guy.  Happy Birthday to the US Marine Corps!

is one of my favorite parts (besides the awesomeness of the team).  They do not make 'em like they used to.  It's usually, "Served three tours, shot down multiple times, was a prisoner of war, rescued 10 fellow soldiers, came back, went to med school, had four kids..."  We're all pretty lame compared to those men and women.
