Friday Night Drinking And Summer is Almost Gone Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

So I wake up from a much-needed power nap to find no friday night drinking thread.  What the heck is going on around here?   We are 13 days from the season opener and we are getting very close to the end of summer.   Yesterday I watched oldest son's football scrimmage and it felt alot more like October up here than mid-August.  Two questions:

1.  Your drink of choice tonight is....

2.   Your plans to squeeze the most juice out of what is left of summer is/are....

Have a great weekend while you watch for surfacing subs.

Submarine executing emergency surfacing by blowing its ballast tanks ...

my hope for you is that you leave the socal law job and take your family and get out of that rat race that is putting such a bug up your bun.  there isn't a better time to have a vision for your life and make changes.  i used to be doing/living your life in many respects, but i had a plan that made sense for me.  figure out where you want your life to go and start making those changes.   life is for the living, its short, and whatever you are doing isn't good for you.

The Anchor steam promo guy came by the bar tonight and bought the table a round of beers. It's the little unexpected vistories that really get me through the week.

Xtra- if you are still tracking, nice job moderating this thread, as always. I have a question. I've been a week here near Indian River, and I wonder why the meat up here is so bad. Thin soil? We stock up in Chicago before we come.

smash, i have not had that experience although maybe you are referring to some form of super premium, kobe style of cattle?  there are parts of north here where you can get into the glacial silt, sand, and some of the acidic soils around the pine forests but even then a reasonably well cared for animal should yield a pretty good side of beef.

i can't say i've farmed anywhere but northern michigan, but as far as i know our hay cuttings are just fine, proper % of proteins, etc.   many cattle in northern areas get fed silage during the winter (not ours) but main harvest time for beef starts around fair time (now) and generally runs through fall.  that means even the herds that lived on silage during the winter have turned their diet back to higher quality feed for months before harvest so any issues would be removed.

maybe in some of the small towns the super markets take distribution from cheap/weak wholesalers who aren't processing good herds - thats about all i can think of.   next trip you come by the farm and we'll drop some beef in your cooler, maybe some lamb and/or chicken too.

supposed to be a glorious day up here today, 80 and crystal clear sunshine.  enjoy your vacation.

Thanks. Heading out today-back to reality. If it ever comes to a vote, you have mine for The World's Most Interesting Man. If your details are for real (and I know some here just make stuff up) you seem to have had enough adventures in enough great places for 2 or 3 interesting lives.

Oysters in Plymouth then to Melange in Ann Arbor for dinner. Happy Hour PBRs then a Soft Parade with dinner. Even got a parking spot on Main St. Right out front.

Home early and up early with no hangover. Win win in my book.
