I think it was Mouton.

On the play before the TD sneak Thomas Gordon gave him a pretty good pop. I'm surprised he came back, especially with all the attention multiple concussions have gotten lately. Wonder if ambulance chasers surf around looking for cross-eyed players who return to play in the same freaking GAME.

I thought it was Thomas Gordon.

I think Denard ran out there, hit him, and ran back. He is so fast, no one saw him.
September 11th, 2010 at 10:03 PM ^
may have come earlier.... Roh hit him pretty good on one of the last few plays.
September 11th, 2010 at 10:08 PM ^
he should not have played the second half. Going blind in one eye from a head injury could be a sign of a really serious neurological injury.
September 11th, 2010 at 11:17 PM ^
IIRC they reported blurred vision, not total blindness, but anyway. They were checking him on the sidelines, I'm sure the staff wouldn't have put him in if they thought he was really hurt that badly.

I'd like to believe this, but I don't think football culture has evolved to the "let's not risk it" mentality yet. There's a new awareness about this sort of injury, and that's good. But I think it will take some time before tough-guy norms change, if they ever do. I agree with you in general, though, that ND most likely tried to provide top-notch medical care.

you're right its a 16 not a 10, not sure what espn is thinking

a great photo, though!

Heck of a game. ND is going to be very good in the coming years under Kelly in my humble opinion.
September 11th, 2010 at 10:28 PM ^
I agree. UM should be good as well, but I am excited about this game finally being relevant nationally again.
September 11th, 2010 at 10:32 PM ^
yeah it was a good game, it will be fun to watch Denard in the coming weeks. My only request is UM keeps him healthy, he will not last 11 more games if he has to carry the offense in every one of them.

Irish says Michigan is bowl-bound...book it.
Seriously, great game. I was looking at ND's upcoming schedule, and they don't have much down time this year. MSU, then BC, right?
September 11th, 2010 at 10:39 PM ^
and pitt after that, then WMU, hopefully everyone is still healthy by then
September 11th, 2010 at 11:31 PM ^
Please beat MSU, m'kay? I am forced to work with Sparties, they need to be taken down a peg.

Thank you Jesus, amen.

Great game Irish. Your team is going to be really good. They came back and Rudolph is a beast.

and Rudolph's on my fantasy team!

When they were talking about blurred vision in one eye, my first thought was a Scottie Pippen migraine.
I do agree that if Crist's vision was blurred by a hit, he shouldn't have gone back in. Hopefully, he ends up fine.

Thomas Gordon has a big time upside. Kid played a good game for his first real action
September 11th, 2010 at 11:20 PM ^
Staff thinks it happened on the 20 yard scramble for the TD that was called back, guess he hit his head on the ground pretty hard. Kelly said when he came to the sideline for the next play he thought something was off with Crist. Also sounds like the staff pulled him when they found out about his blurred vision at the end of the drive.
They don't apparently seem to think it was a concussion, which is why they let him go back into the game in the 3rd.
September 11th, 2010 at 11:25 PM ^
Crist got slammed by a blitzer to his left early in the drive. After that play in the background you could see him shaking his head. I think that's when he got hurt. A blitz from there means either Mouton or Gordon. The guy seemed big (but I didn't see more than a split second) so my guess is Mouton. But I think it really happened when he was at the 40, not the TD run.
September 12th, 2010 at 12:13 AM ^
got him under the chin just as he released the ball.
September 11th, 2010 at 11:27 PM ^
Does anyone else think Kelly would or should get criticized for putting his potentially-concussed QB back on the field?
September 12th, 2010 at 1:02 AM ^
I think it's tough to pin this on one person, especially since it could really be the case that nothing was wrong. There's a team of people involved in this pressure-packed, time-critical situation. It's another example to remember as this issue evolves, for sure.
September 12th, 2010 at 12:09 AM ^
Crist went head first to the ground on his td run. On one replay they waved smelling salts under his nose on the sideline. Sideline reporter said vision changes. Sounds like a concussion and if so, he should not have been put back in, IME. I guess we don't have all the facts, but it seems at least aggressive and perhaps reckless to put him back in.
