Now this is the sort of news you want on a Wednesday morning when not much else is going on otherwise. I know he's said before that Ann Arbor is the last stop, so between that and the performance to date, he can coach the basketball team for as long as he feels up to it, in my opinion.

Another 30 years from then and we'll have street punks with wired reflexes and hand spurs hacking into megacorporate arcologies in neo-Seattle.

This is awesome news. Beilein is the best or damn near the best basketball coach any of us have had the privilege to root for; it's great knowing we'll have him leading the program for another six seasons at least.
It also helps bolster recruiting efforts for the next few classes, what with the players knowing that Coach B will be here through or almost through their graduations.
I also found it interesting that the press release states that Beilein is fourth on the all-time UM basketball win list, since placing him fourth would include Steve Fisher's vacated wins (with vacated wins, Fisher has 184; without, just 108).
Also, Beilien has averaged 20.75 wins in his 8 years here. If he keeps pace with that (let's say at least 20 wins, and let's hope it's substantially more than that most of the remaining years of the contract), he will pass Fisher (including vacated wins) this year, pass Bill Frieder (191) and move into second place next year, and then ascend to #1 all-time in 2017-2018 when he passes Johnny Orr's 209.
Most likely, he'll acculumate the 43 wins necessary to pass Orr by the end of the 2016-17 season.

Really happy that we get to have Beilein around for a few more years, and very clearly this is his last stop.
One potential downside is that I'd say this puts a damper on a "coach in waiting" situation with Jordan or BA to immediately follow Beilein. But that may be for the best, we will have to see.

Beilein will be 68 at the end of the extension.
Jordan will be 42, Bacari will be 45.
If we can hold on to both coaches - and I believe Bacari has said publicly he would remain an assistant under Lavall - that should set up nicely for the future. Two young coaches with over a decade of tutelage under Beilein, what more could we ask for?

Coach Beilein will be the same age at the end of his tenure as Coach K was at the end of last season, as both have February birthdays.
