Check out the Michigan Depth Chart from just 8 games ago...
Yes, that would be the OSU game from last year. This is the official Depth Chart found in the Game Program. I just came across it and found it interesting/depressing.
DE Graham, Heiniger, Patterson
DT Van Bergen, Banks
NT Martin, Campbell
OLB Roh, Herron, Watson
MLB Ezeh, Fitzgerald, Demens
WLB Mouton, Leach, B. Smith
SLB S. Brown, Simmons, M. Jones
LCB Warren, T. Jones, Turner
RCB Woolfolk, Floyd
SS Kovacs, Van Slyke
FS Williams, Emilien
Almost everything from SLB on down is one big scratch out. And this isn't ancient history. This is EIGHT GAMES AGO.
Sheesh.

Most teams only have 4 starters in their secondary (2 CB's and 2 safeties).

......the new DC, new style from last year. My own personal opinion is that if Casteel had come with RR, we would still have bad D play, but we wouldn't be having any discussion of coaching being the culprit, but rather the losses of numerous DBs. Remember, last year Warren was a second year starter, Woolfolk had seen time previously and was a strength. We still had the same LB corp, Roh and Martin were freshmen(although they played pretty good), and RVB didn't start to really play well until near the end of the season. To sum, our LB play isn't any better than last year, and our DBs are all first year starters at the position with only Floyd seeing any time in games last year, and Kovacs is Kovacs.

but you have to look at the level of competition too. Those teams you listed aren't exactly playing in the Big Ten, therfore it isn't fair to compare our team to them.

Gee, thanks for waking me up from my dream and making me realize that I'm not in a dream. It's a nightmare, and it's really happening.
BTW, Are we up to 85 scholarships yet? Seems like we've been playing with a grade school recess-like roster size of 16 or something like that, where everyone wants to play quarterback or wide receiver and nobody wants to block or play defense.

We only have 75 scholarship players on the 2010 roster right now; that number does not include players who have transferred this season like Lalota, Emilien, Turner, White, etc.
