Board Recommendation of Suspension Likely Coming for Meyer - report from Columbus Dispatch

Submitted by Indy Pete - Go Blue on

Siegel and Sullivan provided the latest update, and I found this excerpt to be quite compelling:

"Two sources connected to the investigation said the likely recommendation to university President Michael V. Drake is a suspension for Meyer. Drake and the board could also opt for a “time served” punishment since Meyer has been removed from football activities for more than two weeks."

I personally consider it unsurprising that the board is reportedly recommending a slap on the wrist.  Perhaps the president will take matters into his own hands.  Time will tell...

I 100% expect a first-week suspension as part of a "month" paid suspension with time served.

And I'm sure the report will show that Meyer knew, failed to follow up on reporting it to someone, but otherwise didn't do something egregious enough OSU can't cover it up.

I can see how this could be the Regents performing a CYA maneuver here, to place the blame squarely on Drake if Meyer is canned. "What? Oh no, I recommended only suspending Meyer. Drake fired him. Not me."

Both the Dispatch and OSU (like there's a difference) seem to be going out of their way to point out that it's Drake's decision.

But all things considered, I guess this makes me tilt my prediction more toward the "He won't get fired" side. But who knows? Wait and see.

If someome leaked it to the paper then sign it, seal it, deliver it, that’s the answer. A suspension. Don’t pretend President Drake is his own man here. He will do what the board consensus tells him to.

The report will say Meyer and OSU tried to help shitbag Smith but ultimately they couldn’t rehabilitate him. They will condemn domestic violence in the strongest possible terms but insist Meyer and Shelley were doing their best in a difficult situation.

The report will recommend a bunch of internal policies to make sure it doesn’t happen again and to absolve Meyer of any human responsibility and nobody will implement them or follow up.

And Michigan will put the hurt on OSU this fall. I bet you anything Harbaugh and pep and don MF brown are already planning the OSU game plan. They are eating game tapes for breakfast lunch and dinner. They will humiliate Meyer and company this year.

That's good because, on paper, this looks like it could be one of the best teams OSU has ever fielded. JT couldn't pass well enough to take advantage of the talent they have on the outside (i.e. Michael Thomas). They'll be a different animal with a top shelf passer in haskins and the best backfield in the country (per bleacher report). Don better be scheming as we speak because they have the better athletes across the board and it really isn't even close.

scUM will put the hurt on OSU, that's laughable.  Do you remember 2015?  Who put the hurt on who?  I remember Joey Bosa putting the hurt on your q.b..  The only thing Jimmy has for breakfast is his boogers.

The President of OSU has to know feminists, women's advocacy groups, media of all stripes, and who knows who else (and I don't say these things disparagingly, but simply as a statement of fact as I see it) are ready to mobilize as soon as it's announced Urban stays.  Columbus will be overrun within 24 hours.  There may be a blitz of sports media types if Urban were to be fired, but the all out media attack on OSU for placing the program above a beaten woman would be massive.  They can't be blind to cultural shift that has taken place in this country, where "looking the other way" is no longer accepted as business as usual.  It will be an interesting watch.

In most cases, I would probably agree with you.  However, in this case, they (SJWs) would not just be randomly looking for something which offends them.  Meyer knowingly hired and retained a serial domestic abuser.  And OSU may well choose to protect their football program and money train over a women beaten for what, nearly a decade?  For better or worse, that decision in today's America makes you a target.  And deservedly so.

That's better than nothing. The guy is a scoundrel and this places him on a shorter fuse--I mean leash. Hopefully he starts to feel angry at being second-guessed. And with this he may have worked his way out of an eventual ND job; he's looking plenty toxic at this stage.

Let OSU ride with the criticism, the clear denigration of principle. . . let that shit stick to their half-assed rep. It's all good, IMO because--personally-I am more leery of the notion that that school is on the up-and-up as an academic institution than that's it's a batshit crazy football school that somehow can tame itself (no one expects that anyway).

There will be some brown specks on everybody, including their ambitious new prez.

This “punishment” is in line with what was leaked about two weeks ago, four game suspension to placate the #metoo contingency.

Three members of the BoT are part of the investigation panel, so the leak and recommendation seem to make sense.

My gut reaction is that the investigation from the interviews to cell phone records aren’t primary seem like they care about a fair and honest outcome, but rather t get every piece of evidence to mitigate surprises and protect urban as well as their football interests. I’d bet dollars to donuts that they uncover, but destroy, some really ugly stuff from the phone records.

Well I am not going to make another post on this topic, but in Ohio State Graduate fashion, Ohio's governor came out today and said:

"I hope he is going to be fine.”
“So, I hope this will all be resolved. I hope that he’s going to be in a position where he can — this has been difficult, I’m sure, for he and his family — I hope can get his reputation back because it’s been damaged and it might not be fair,” ... “And I want him to be back on top again. I don’t root against people.” -Ohio Governor Kasich

I just watched Jim Rome's rant on Urban Meyer and his crapshow of excuses.  For the first time in my life I agree with Rome.  He actually called out OSU and Meyer and this whole mess.  He showed some semblance of integrity, but ultimately agreed that what will most likely come from all this is a "time-served" punishment and business as usual as OSU.

It's a sad state of affairs that money and wins trumps decency and integrity doing what's right.  All this will be overshadowed by Maryland and whatever comes next.  Meyer is a slimy lizard that will once again walk away clean despite all the filth and stench that seems to surround whatever big-time program he leaves behind.

Surprisingly, Utah never had the issues that Florida and OSU have had during his watch.
