2020 commit Kalil Branham track video
Al Washington tweeted these track highlights of Kalil. Speed, guts and courage... Harbaugh will love this kid... and I think we will as well.
#BranhamBoys
He looks a lot larger than 6'1 if he's able to just hop the hurdles like that.
Also, that guy looks like a football future all american hawking down the entire field to win the 4x400. He's way too built for track.
I don't care what level of track you're competing in or how good the competition is—to come from as far back as he did in a punishing race like the 400 is damn impressive.
Not sure how 400 speed translates into football speed but that was damn impressive.
Well, it means he is fast and can do it for a long time. I saw his PR in the 400 was like 50 seconds flat. So take that down to 12.25 100 M. Not a direct correlation but that is pretty fast 4 times in a row. By the way he ran that race I would guarantee he could run 48 seconds or less easily with correct training.
As a former track guy, I would say that the 400m alone doesn't "translate" all that well by itself, but that's a real tough race, especially for a guy as big as he is. It tells me he's not only really fast, but has some mental toughness and likely a decent amount of endurance as well, which will allow him to put in lots of high quality reps every practice. But really - it just shows he's a hell of an athlete. That's what we want.
Endurance is important for WR who have to run route after route after route at practice, which becomes a sort of wind sprint drill all day. He also might be a guy the QBs turn to to put in extra work because they know he can go all day without needed a break.
Wow. That’s impressive. The dude looks like he has the size to dishrag DBs and go toe to toe with LBs downfield blocking.
Fast, determined...and stylish!
I timed the two races:
~51 seconds in the 400
~15 flat in the 110 hurdles (never heard of a hurdle relay that looked fun)
Neither of those times are necessarily elite for track, but I'd think he could go faster on each if that competition was a little faster. They were all slow but him, especially considering they were the anchors...
Just realized he's a freshman in this video... He's fast
I agree with you that 51 isn't elite for the quarter, but IMO sub-50 is and it's a good bet he gets there. I think he's a soph in this video, right? If he's class of 2020, 2018 would be his soph year. Point still stands.
Woe! Either he's that fast or those other guys really suck. Probably both. Those guys running that 400 were terrible. Even the last one in the lead. That hurdle run was impressive though. Smoked that kid bad and started after him. Going toe to toe for a quarter of the way on hurdles has got to say something for your athleticism.
He's pretty jacked for being that fast. Built like Anquan Boldin.
I had him come in around 51 flat. Not bad at all.
