Trash Talking at the End
Does anyone know what was going on at the end between Morris and Lucas (and possibly others)? Was it just a culmination of trash talking throughout the game or did something else go down?
I'm usually a big fan of being a good sport and keeping your mouth shut, but part of me loves that they put MSU in their place. I think it can help with the mental aspect of things, and get in the other teams' head. Very cathartic.
but he doesn't need to be doing at that after the final buzzer. At that point, let the win speak for itself. I love his competitiveness, but it really didn't look at that classy at the time.
I'm not a fan of trash talk
but I remember Raymon Morgan and crew last year with their smug faces,so, part of me was happy. Either way, I'm glad little brother is on a first class flight to Bolivia.I was thinking to myself "self, I'm so f-ing glad I don't have to see that frickin chode puffing his lip out every time he does anything remotely good". I hated that guy, glad he's gone.
Chanting "No means No" at Appling as he shot his free throws.
I didn't think they had it in them.
though i will say "Hide Your Kids, Hide Your Wife" was better
I am no fan of Morris's trash talk in general...but in this case, I will defend him. Sparty was talking trash all game long. Morris puts in the winning layup, he gets the right to say something. All he said was something along the lines of 'get off my court'. Yeah, really harsh.
Frankly, if Lucas (and more so, Izzo) can't take that talk, they are wusses.
Will the complete game be uploaded sometime in the future? Or at least just the clip where D. Morris trash talks Lucas?
F*** Izzo. A few years back MSU was beating us by 30 and they were still launching 3-pointers left and right running up the score. And he's mad because Morris breaks the press and scores at the end of the game? MSU WAS STILL PRESSING. If he just wants the game to end, then why is he pressing the ball?
Don't press and I'm sure Morris just lets the clock run out. But when you run your entire defense at him, well hell why NOT take the ball to the hoop?
Izzo is just a sore loser.
I don't think it was anything more than a couple of competitive guys letting their emotions spill out at the end of the game.
much less 100+ comments.
FWIW, after the game I heard someone ask Matt Vogrich about it and he said "It's just the rivalry."
I dont understand why people are hating on Morris for talking trash after the game. Who cares, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird where some of the biggest trash talkers of all time and nobody rips on them for it. Its part of the game, get off your high horse and be happy with the passion Morris has for Michigan basketball.
Love it. Sounds like a t-shirt to me.
..... done.
+1 for awesome.
I hate in sports more than anything else, is a coach who makes "frowned upon" coaching descisions, like running up the score; leaving you starters in during a blowout, ect. ect. And turns around and complains about it the second it happens to them. reason why ill never cheer for nebraska. Saying morris deserved lucas throwing the ball at his head because of his layup was as low as you could get.
Michigan has just completed a season sweep of MSU, something that hasn't happened in nearly two decades, and people are berating one of the players for getting a little full of himself and talking some trash?
Now, I'm not a proponent of swearing in public, but yeeesh! These boys earned it!
Run your jaws, gentlemen. You've got the right! But only for a couple of days. Then it's back to work.
"Get the fuck off my court"? That's it? He didn't call the guy a name, or promise to pleasure his mother while his girlfriend waited her turn? After all Lucas' talking, he went off on that? Whatever man! Don't be such a little girl.
As for the lay-up theory, COME ON MAN! What he hell is he supposed to do - not score? It was still a five point game. How about stopping him? Just be glad he didn't dunk the ball like he should have. Mad about a lay-up! In the words of Ron White, "Here! Take this Midol. Maybe you wont bitch quite so much."
I've been playing b-ball for years and trash talking is apart of the game. I agree with Morris. Get the fuck off my court.
Izzo and MSU are terrible losers. On the Wisconsin board I frequent we keep a fantastic long list of MSU's late game transgressions, which always comes in handy to refute MSU's inevitable whining about a "lack of class" by a rival who has the audacity to beat him. Given Bo Ryan's impressive head-to-head record against Izzo I am all too familiar with his routine, ironic considering his teams have a long, long history of unsportsmanlike plays, like the ally-oop dunk very late in a lopsided win over Michigan that was posted in this thread. Once Alando Tucker dunked very late to cap off a Wisconsin rout, a bad decision to be sure, and that caused Izzo to embark on a 5 year vendetta after hissing "I'll remember that." You'll notice that exact phrase was uttered by an MSU player after this recent crime against Lord Izzo, which to my eyes was SCORING AGAINST A PRESS IN A 2 POSSESSION GAME.
I suspect you'll be fighting this battle for years now that you have leveled the laying field a bit. If you guys want to slap little brother down on this point I should give you this list. It's comprehensive, on point and totally impressive, a literary muzzle for that segment of the MSU fanbase capable of reading it.
Here's the list of some of Izzo's classier late game moments, dating back only to 2008. Have fun.
-----------------------------------------------------
Will They Remember That?
November 28, 2010 - Tennessee Tech = MSU's Anthony Ianni attempts a jump shot with the shot clock turned off and a 19-point lead

December 30, 2009 - Texas-Arlington = MSU's Isaiah Dahlman attempts a 3-pointer with the shot clock turned off and a 21-point lead

January 27, 2008 - Michigan = MSU's Durrell Summers dunks with the shot clock turned off and a 17-point lead
(MGoPoints being one of your life goals, no doubt.) Very well played. You get a Tremendous! from Lloyd Carr for this effort. After all, he was almost Bucky's coach.
"On, ryebadger."
Mmmm...badger on rye. Yummy.
(kidding...)
Izzo is a classic neighborhood bully. He'll dish this crap out all day, but heaven forbid someone even come close to doing the same to him.
Most of this stuff doesn't really bother me; I don't care if a player tries to score at the end of a game or not. But what he did in the 2000 game - putting his starters back in the game in the final minutes so they could win by 50 (and so Cleaves could set the single-game assist record) - was about the worst sportsmanship I've ever seen. Even if he'd never done anything like that again, he should never again have a leg to stand on after that. The annoying thing is that the local media doesn't ever call him out on this stuff.
