Hey, molarity can be pretty tricky.  The last test we took, the class average was 59%.  Our prof likes to curve the average to C to C+ so we're potentially looking at a 15-20 point curve.

Edit:  I got an 83 on the last test...just wanted to make that clear.

Nicely done. It's been four years since I touched that stuff. I was never considering chemical engineering, but Chem 103 and Materials Science would have convinced me not to if I was. I could do the math but I still can't comprehend how any of that stuff actually works.

Thanks.

I understand what's going on in terms of penalties and objectives. I'm just at a level where unless someone is scoring or doing something blatantly awesome I don't really know whether they're playing well or not. Unless the puck is on one side of the ice for an extended period of time I can't tell a good team from a bad team.

I guess it's similar to my knowledge about all other sports in that respect.

is to watch defensive rotations (who defends against who) and the amount of space and control they allow their assignment. that and how well the pass is placed are the first parts to focus on. hits, placing the puck, knowing where the open man is - that you'll pick up. to be honest, your best bet is to watch an NHL game you couldn't care less about and just try to figure out who's playing well

one of the more complicated calls to figure out for an observer:

Icing occurs when a player is on the defensive side of the center line and shoots the puck past the offensive goal line, without it being touched in the meantime.  (if it runs into the goalie in the net, it is also not icing)

The "penalty" for this, is a face-off in the defensive zone AND the team that just iced the puck may not complete a change (which isn't always a huge factor, but if it's been a long shift for them already, then that part of it can be pretty important).

Icing will be waved off (theoretically) if:

The opposing goalie leaves the crease to play the puck OR

an offensive player can get to the puck before it crosses the goal line (or at least the linesman rules he can) OR

A defensive player gets to the offensive face-off dot before an offensive player does OR

the defensive team is short-handed

Hopefully that clears things up a little for you.  I'd try to explain stick penalties, but it if you're interested in those, it would probably be easiest to just read the rule book, not that it's going to help so much, because every ref has a different opinion of those anyways...

Great story about Louie, Hagelin, and Rust. Good move by them to stay for their senior season, and they're all very impressive men.

They've definitely left their mark, and I think they have a shot to bring in that national championship this year!

ps. did anyone watching that story see the "Michigan Hockey Historian" they interviewed? Some lady named Mickey?

Michigan played really well. Miami had 4 power plays in the period (to our 1) and only scored on 1. Considering we are on the road and they are the #3 PP in the country, thats not bad. There were tons of penaltys in that period, and I doubt there will be many in the third, which favors us, as Miami has been completely outplayed in this game during 5 on 5. As someone else mentioned, the third is their worst period as well. If we can get the next goal, this game is ours.

Ive ever seen a hockey team take this many penalties in a season before. Were getting like 5 a game and they come at the worst possible times, like right after the other team scores, or when we are on the powerplay.

Not just that. They stole EVERY cheer. Sieve sieve sieve, more goals, how much time is left, you name it. Not sure about C-Ya.

Sure, our cheers were originally stolen, but we made them different and better, and we added more. They completely took ours word-for-word. I bet their dumb ohioan students think they made them up, too. Shitting fuck on a stick.

RE-goddammed-DICULOUS!  Of course that trash call would lead to a goal.

Also, copy more cheers, Redhawks.  Seriously. copy more cheers.

Response to all the comments in this general area/time:

That was a dumb penalty by Wohlberg. But even the homer commentators said "wait a minute... that looked like a dive!"

They should have both gone off for roughing or obstruction, but that was a total and complete oscar performance by that red _awk muncher
