Defensive Coordinator Rumors
FWIW:
TomDienhart Brady Hoke may consider hiring ex-Florida DC Teryl Austin and/or Baltimore Ravens DC Greg Mattison, according to Detroit Free Press.
If Hoke continues coaching his defensive linemen, and he reportedly would be bringing linebackers coach Mark Smith with him, that would leave the defensive secondary and the defensive coordinator spot.
He could look at coaches from his past to help fill the defensive coordinator role, including former U-M assistant Teryl Austin, who worked with Hoke at U-M in 1999-2002.
Another coach with ties to Hoke is Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Greg Mattison.

The points on this board surrounding these names seems eerily similar to the HC search. 1. If it was really Austin, it would've probably happened already. Thus, it is not Austin (Hoke). 2. Greg isn't going to do it, he's got a better opportunity in the NFL (Harbaugh) or is too old (Miles). Given recent history, it seems as though we should steer away from the obvious reasons for and against a candidate as being the actual reasons why or why not we may land a DC.

Actually, that makes a lot of sense. Shannon is the sexy name that always comes up but is very unlikely (Gruden), Trgovac is the guy in a winning situation who we seem to think might come here because we're MICHIGAN (Patterson)...can't figure out who would be Fitzgerald.

What happened to the Al Williams (Colts DB coach) talk that Snyder started? I read up the guy and I think I'm in love.
Personally, I'd prefer to NOT have someone who has been at Michigan before to be the DC. The whole "band back together" thing isn't really an appropriate way to run a program.

Just saw on Twitter that Ron English just put something up on Facebook about how he just receieved a call from Coach Hoke and that big news is coming out soon. English as the DC again?

Not trying to be the grammar police, but did you forget the i before e rule and decide to do both? i before e except after c, when it's between e's.

He seems to really like being a head coach!

Nothing more. Whoever the DC ends up being, Snyder will not be the first to know.

I think the Fortress is back and were going to have to adjust to no info for the foreseeable future ladies and gentlemen.

Is if Mattison was the first choice, was given an opportunity to mull over the job following the Ravens' loss, and is still thinking about the position. Austin would be the #2 guy and would only be offered if Mattison said no. Therefore, that's why Austin isn't the DC yet.
I find this scenario highly unlikely. First, IMO the only way Mattison leaves is if he gets a pay raise, and since Michigan should not pay Hoke a high salary (as he doesn't deserve one), a pay raise for Mattison would probably mean he would only be making a little less than Hoke. Second, there's no reason why he would leave, the reasons for which are obvious and already mentioned by several posters. Austin is available. We can only hope they are ironing out the details.
But given the time lapse, it really doesn't look promising.
