MI vs. Syracuse Open Thread
So the 3-0 Wolverines face their first test tonight as they take on the highly rated Orangemen of Syracuse. Syracuse has struggled their last two games, and the young Wolverines hope to catch some luck against a good Big East team.
The game is on HDNet also, so if you have an online stream, that would be helpful.

Nice garbage shot by Hardaway lol
November 26th, 2010 at 9:34 PM ^
It seems like Morris can't control himself.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:34 PM ^
that he doesn't need to/ cannot take over the game like Kobe. The system is to get the ball to an open man. He's good and I'm sure will learn.
Anyway, at least M played hard.

has almost singledhandedly killed us this second half. Just a terrible series of decisions, drives and shot selection (he should not even be thinking about shooting outside 10 feet).
November 26th, 2010 at 11:52 PM ^
absolutely on fire in the last game. Can't tell the kid not to take open shots and maybe some of his shots were questionable but we weren't getting great looks in the 2nd half anyway.

Cuse hits first...
Hits second
M down 5 and syracuse has a million fouls to give. DOesn't look good.

Shot selection leaves a lot to be desired, but at least the rebounding seems much, much, much improved.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:37 PM ^
Oh well -- disturbed with the lack of composure at the end, but overall, not too bad, I guess. We did a good job rebounding, which was very nice.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:37 PM ^
Cuse to the line up 5 w/ 5 secs to go. Good game boys.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
organizers had a suggestion to the refs and the announcers that it would be best if Syracuse advanced.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
So -that's- why we rushed all those 3's...
November 26th, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
Michigan's poor shooting will still hold this team back from being anything beyond mediocre. They will lead the nation in passing the ball around the arc until the shot clock is running out and jacking up ridiculous shots though.
Both teams looked bad in this game, and it wasn't due to good defense. Syracuse won't be in the top ten for long.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
Syracuse is not going to have the best of years.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
Not bad, definitely some promising things to take away from this game! We never folded, which I think everyone would have expected, especially after that 9-0 run. Darius has to play smarter, but that'll come. Hopefully soon, cuz I don't wanna pull out anymore hair...
November 26th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
Michigan is very young and they definitely played hard tonight. They're definitely on the right path and will be just that much better by the time the conference schedule rolls around. No reason this can't be a tournament team in the Big Ten.

Go Orange, Go Blue
November 26th, 2010 at 9:40 PM ^
We played sloppy and the cuse got every call in the game. Refs sucked! We should get a win tomorrow.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:43 PM ^
Refs were very good. Michigan was relegated to passing it around the perimeter. Syracuse penatrated and drew contact. Very well officiated game.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
Not a pretty game at all, but a good learning experience for both teams. Looking forward to seeing this Michigan team mature, they could be a very good team with some time.
Now that this is over, looking forward to tomorrow, let's kick their ass. Go Blue!
November 26th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
or was the second half officiating 'questionable'. And my goodness are the HDNet broadcasters lousy. It was like listening to the 'Cuse radio network.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:51 PM ^
You can't complain about officiating when you can't hit your (poorly chosen) shots.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
Not mad @ that loss at all... they just have to clean up a few things plus the refs sucked.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:45 PM ^
Cuse has more talent than we do, and this was our first real test, and first game away from Crisler. The kids battled hard, lost their composure at the end, but did alright. Played decent D and did a good job rebounding the ball most of the game (helped that Cuse plays a zone) considering they're alot taller than us. Joseph for Cuse played a great game and I was glad to see Hardaway guarding him, going to help that kid grow up real fast. Didn't shoot the ball great, but we stayed in the game.
Cuse didn't impress me. Not a top 25 team right now IMO, let alone top 10. Can't take alot from one game though.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
They look good, but need to find who will be their go-to scorer. Morris may be that guy, probably why he was rushing things tonight. Should be an exciting year. Go Blue!
November 26th, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
I think their asset is that they have multiple threats. They definitely look like one of Beilein's West Virginia teams, they're going to be good when this team matures.
November 26th, 2010 at 9:58 PM ^
Watch out when this team gets hot...they could surprise some teams this year...to bad they dont go inside more.
November 26th, 2010 at 10:05 PM ^
November 26th, 2010 at 10:08 PM ^
agreed...how many times can you actaully pass it around the 3pt line...i mean i can coach that.
November 26th, 2010 at 10:44 PM ^
Great! I'll be looking forward to seeing you patrolling the sidelines.
November 26th, 2010 at 10:52 PM ^
that Brian Ellerbe posted here.
How's it going, coach?
November 27th, 2010 at 12:03 AM ^
Ha thats funny shit! crackin up...just sayin that i wish i would have seen them go inside more or have someone flash the middle a little more. looking forward to seeing this team get better and grow. They play good together.
November 27th, 2010 at 12:24 AM ^
I think that had a lot to do with Syracuse's very, very tall team playing a 2-3. Early on, Morris caught them napping a couple times for quick dishes inside, but it really wasn't there after that.
November 26th, 2010 at 10:42 PM ^
Yeah as bad as Cuse played we should have won. Then again, we weren't on our best either, but it was winnable, and that's what makes it suck even more.
November 27th, 2010 at 12:21 AM ^
The shots just didn't fall in the last five minutes, but the guys really battled. Get to some games at Crisler if you can - this team deserves our support.
November 27th, 2010 at 2:12 AM ^
As I said earlier, if we were to win we had to hit the open 3's in the second half. We didn't and we ended up losing, its all good though we played a great game. It went much better than my prediction, so i'm at least happy. We played as a "team".
November 27th, 2010 at 8:12 AM ^
This young team played very well against the #9 team and with a few better decisions and made shots they win. I think this is the first year that it will be truly JB's team.
My father, a 'Cuse fan, tempered my enthusiasm. He says that they tend to play up or down to their opponents. Especially in preseason when the scores are close even if they are playing a D2 team.
Still, the went toe-to-toe with the #9 team!
