Game Ball to the Defense
Let's give it up to the much maligned defense. They kept us in the game with 5 forced TO's and giving up only 244 yards of total offense, with Mike Martin and Mouton riding the bench nonetheless. Not the prettiest win, but a win is a win. Keep the faith. Go Blue!

Ditto. They really stepped up this game.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:03 PM ^
Thank God for our defense. Turnovers, only 9 points allowed, and a fumble recovery for a TD. Great to see.
Go Blue.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:22 PM ^
Technically, they gave up 9. One of those FGs was gift wrapped by one terrible throw that was late, over the middle, and high. Nice to see the D win this one for us.

Non-goats....Obi Ezeh. Courtney Avery. Ray Vinopal
November 13th, 2010 at 3:13 PM ^
its amazing that vinopal was able to make plays with his pants still around his ankles from that juke by henry
November 13th, 2010 at 3:19 PM ^
I will defend Big Play Ray and note that Henry is a legit talent (why he chose Purdue is confusing) who will be heard from for years in the B10.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:22 PM ^
DId hope snag some snake oil of his own?
November 13th, 2010 at 4:02 PM ^
just to be clear, im generally a fan of vinopal and impressed with his play, and especially his tackling, so far
November 13th, 2010 at 3:33 PM ^
I was glad to see Obi have a good game and make the final tackle to end the game.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
Individual game ball to Cam Gordon. He is really playing well in that spur position. High fives to Roh, Carvin Johnson, and Avery.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
Unofficially, Michigan's D gave up only 259 yards today. I don't care if Purdue was down to their 75th-string players on offense, that was a fantastic effort by the defense today.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:05 PM ^
even against a poor purdue offense the d did what they needed to and it was definitely a relief to see
November 13th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
November 13th, 2010 at 3:05 PM ^
The secondary had some great coverage during the game, good pressure from a 3-man rush (which is impossible I'm informed) and good to great tackling. Demens looked good once again and Roh made some huge plays!
November 13th, 2010 at 3:05 PM ^
Ugly win but a win nevertheless.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:07 PM ^
I don't care how bad Purdue's offense was or is, Michigan's D was superb and saved the offense today.
I don't think I saw many one on one tackles, just a ton of players getting to the ball.
Fantastic effort!
November 13th, 2010 at 3:10 PM ^
Those boys played a helluva game.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:10 PM ^
Didn't seem to be a lot of players out of position either on D, nice swarm tackling, good pressure and good tackling, we'll need that going in to next week, but happy with the win today!!
November 13th, 2010 at 3:10 PM ^
mouton doesnt play and our defense does well...
im not gonna go so far as to say that were better without him (although i really want to), but at the very least im not terribly worried about his departure at the end of the season

Saw this article before the game, but didn't wanna post it during the game and jinx tthe play of the D. But its a nice little read about our D making some progress.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:11 PM ^
Huge day for them. I believe Purdue scored only 3 points on drives that started in its territory. And the D did it without Martin and Mouton for long stretches.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
Gerg I will pray for you sir! Wisconsin just put up 83 on Indy! It's great to have this win and build confidence. Let's hope martin and moutan are good to go next week. Go Blue!
November 13th, 2010 at 3:13 PM ^
More like 2-3 forced TOs and 3-2 unforced.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:17 PM ^
It counts as a turnover in the record books, and that's all I care about.
So I guess we only had 3 forced TOs, because Denard just plain threw a pass to no one and the fumbled exchanged was unforced.
What's your point? Be happy that we won, sheesh.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
Not sure why you're getting agitated. He's just stating the facts. And how does his post make it seem that he's unhappy that we won?
November 13th, 2010 at 3:15 PM ^
Not giving up any touchdowns when your offense turns the ball over five times is a stellar job for any defense, no matter how bad the opponent's offense is.
Now let's see how they do against Wisconsin, which just put up 83(!) against Indiana.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:17 PM ^
If the D plays that well for our last two games I'll be very happy. Thank goodness they got it together on a day where our O underproduced. We're due for a game in which both the O and D click and I personally hope that day comes in two weeks
November 13th, 2010 at 3:18 PM ^
Who would've thought we'd play a game this year where the D gives up ZERO TDs!
Great day by the D.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:19 PM ^
Didn't see the game, but the comments and audio suggest that not only were the players doing their jobs-- they were taking it to Purdue and htting hard.
Nice that they are getting thier licks in.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:20 PM ^
Without their two best players, the D won the game today. They should be so proud, they only gave up two more points than they scored themselves.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:21 PM ^
I'm sorry, that Purdue offense was beyond atrocious. Half the time we didn't tackle them, they just knocked each other over. The fact that they scored 16 should be upsetting all of us right now. Not joking.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
Purdue Offense only scored 9-- with five turn overs!
November 13th, 2010 at 3:28 PM ^
And two of their three FG drives started in our territory.
November 13th, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
Thanks for your wonderful fucking insight.
People like you are proof positive that we have some of the worst fans in all of sports.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
the defense gave up 3 points today on drives which required a 1st down to score.
the offense gave up a pick six and 3 other turnovers where the defense held to 3 and out and purdue scored a fg.
the defense won the game today, pure and simple.
i am proud of the mental improvement. no big plays, blown coverages, or complete brain farts. purdue did not provide the toughest physical matchup, but mentally we stayed sharp every down for 4 quarters and that is as much as i can ask for. with no mike martin and jonas moutan, this is as an impressive an outing as I have seen this year from either side of the ball.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:29 PM ^
Instead of giving up the 3rd and long, we were routinely stopping 3rd and short.
My arteries are very thankful for this.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:31 PM ^
Beast in the making
November 13th, 2010 at 3:35 PM ^
Defense was amazing. If we can fly to the ball and anticipate like that from now on we will be in great shape. very few if any missed tackles, good push from the front 3/4, great tackling by the backers...
November 13th, 2010 at 3:35 PM ^
Great game by the D, I hope they continue that for the next two games. Hopefully Martin is ready to go next week.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:37 PM ^
...proud of those guys today.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:44 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing..........2 starters on defense out, the offense turning the ball over multiple times and the defense came up big.........didn't give up a touchdown...........
November 13th, 2010 at 3:44 PM ^
Just imagine if the offense would have scored a td instead of the pick six. 21-3 and the d could really have turned up the heat.

Great job though D.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
The pups played a nice game today. Carvin and Courtney played pretty well, and Ray played solid too! Good game kids.
Kenny is a player too! Better late than never on that kid seeing the field.
November 13th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
I thought Patterson played well at nose tackle as well - made plays all over the field...and van Bergen was a beast!
November 13th, 2010 at 4:04 PM ^
I just wanted to type that heading. Pretty cool, too. Great job today, D!
November 13th, 2010 at 4:29 PM ^
Courtney Avery is going to be an amazing CB in the future. He has really impressed by his play lately.
November 13th, 2010 at 10:14 PM ^
I especially loved the diving pass defense late in the game. It sure is nice to see our db's flying around and breaking on the ball. Carvin was stout today, too, and RV made some nice tackles in space.
