I think it's going to come down to USC and MSU. I doubt UM gets a second look. Despite our WR's success, he wants a pro-style offense.

(especially in the NFL) I think michigan state!

But MSU has put out it's share of good WRs to the NFL the last 25 years. Andre Rison, Mushin Muhammed, Plaxico and Charles Rogers grab the headlines and but they've had others with productive careers. I think that if Roundtree or one of our other WRs get drafted early after they graduate, that will debunk the myth about playing wideout in this offense not going to the next level.

Saying that you want to go to msu to play wr because it's better than Michigan is like saying that you should go to msu to play qb over Michigan or lb over psu.

Pretty much msu should never be picked over Michigan if both offer.

If the head coach or position coach comes to your house or calls and says that we're going to run the read option offense and you're a 6'5" QB with 5.0 speed (Elvis Grbac-style) why would you go to the school running the option? That position is more specialized, but other positions can be played regardless of the school or system.
I can't speak specifically to the WR position, but I would have to believe that once you start enjoying success on Saturdays and in the NFL, players will start seeing themselves believing in whatever system you run.

would a head coach that wants to run the read option be at that quarterback's house?

Charles Rogers???? ummm...no

He will be a Spartan, sadly. IME, of course.

You haven't heard anything because he cut us from his list a few months ago

I think he's the secret visitor who's reconsidering us.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:06 AM ^
Its been stated "ad nauseum" that the visitor is from the south. AKA not Michigan
October 8th, 2010 at 11:19 AM ^
he's from southern Michigan?!

since I left the state?

There was another guy name DeAnthony Thomas, who is a linebacker that committed to USC, but has reopened his recruitment and listed Michigan as a possibility. If thats who you are thinking of.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:52 AM ^
Time to adjust the old sarcasm detector... also isn't DeAnthony Thomas like 5'9? I doubt he's playing LB for USC (or anyone else) in the future.
October 8th, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
Yeah I'm pretty sure he's listed as a DB. I read somewhere he could play either Saftey or Cornerback.
October 8th, 2010 at 12:57 PM ^
De'Anthony Thomas is an athlete in the purest sense of the word. He plays RB, KR, PR, FS, SS, CB, WR, and even LB on occasion. He seems most likely to be a cornerback at the next level.

I coached against Saginaw High for a couple of 7on7's this year...we are not a very good team this season and we shut him down. He is pretty good athlete but it is seems to be based more on leaping ability then speed or wiggle. I am not saying he is a bad player I was just suprised there has been so much hype around him.
October 8th, 2010 at 1:04 PM ^
I don't know, mang. He runs some sick routes in this video (7-on-7 drills at Al Glick field house) and appears to get separation from the defenders on nearly every play.
Perhaps he's less impressive in games than at camp, but he runs like he's on rails in this video.

below, Arnett's potential does not translate to his plays on the field. He looks good in shorts but in pads, he's not nearly as impressive.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:35 AM ^
He's elimated us and we're moving on. DA made a big mistake in his analysis as I think this offense would make tremendous use of his talents. Anybody who's been watching the games can tell that Michigan is throwing the ball and doing so very succesfully...
October 8th, 2010 at 11:38 AM ^
all MSU. Word is the coaching staff were not enamored with Arnett and Arnett's potential does not translate to his play on the field thus far.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:49 AM ^
We have Shawn Conway coming in anyways, who needs Arnett...

I forgot about the guy months ago and that's not a shot at his him or his talent which apparently he has boatlaods of. Still, I'm not worried, in-state recruit or not, if he doesn't want to be here, he doesn't want to be here, nothing we can do about it. Plus it's looking like we have legit shots at either Sammy Watkins, AJ Jordan, Hakeem Flowers or Quinta Funderburk. And if I had my choice out of that group, I would love to have Watkins, the kid is a playmaker!
