UM/ND: Who needs it more?
This guy on Rome is Burning.. Petros... says UM needs this game more than ND... and ND will win b/c Brian Kelly has it all fixed and RR is the wrong kind of change.
But do we really need this game more than ND? I disagree.
We got our win we needed vs. UCONN... I think a 3-1 record in the non-conference is okay... as long as it becomes a 7 or 8 win season..
I really think ND needs this more than us.
I'm not going to explain this well... but I feel like people expect us to lose and RR to fail... and everyone is calling Kelly the new savior... if they lose to us again.. .that's not good for South Benders... or the school or the coach...

he didn't call michigan a bottom 3 big ten team. he said that, by recent history, michigan would be considered a bottom 3 bit ten team. given a 3-13 conference record over the last 2 seasons, that isn't an inaccurate statement.
no credible person believes michigan will be in the bottom 3 of the big 10 this year, but it might be putting the cart ahead of the horse to assume that they'll be runners-up to osu this year.

I've watched the game twice and it's news to me...
Again, I may be forgetting one... Maybe even two. But we had zero turnovers and the only two I can recall is a recovered fumble by Denard and the crazy last minute dive for the kickoff.
Three fumbles before the half? I don't recall that... Or any of the announcers stating anything like that.

No it was an announcer in the UM game

The announcers were saying that Michigan had scored five times already.

Put down the Tom Hammond kool-aid. By the way how many times did Crist fumble last week? And Denard?

And that bottom 3 Big Ten team the last 2 years as you referred to UM would be 2-0 against ND if not for shooting themselves in the foot 20 times in 08.

Brian Kelly isn't on the hot seat, and won't be even if UM manages to win. After the disappointments of the Weis era, BK will get at least two years to improve things. The Irish faithful won't be happy with a loss, but unless it's 55-0 there won't be any lasting repercussions for Kelly.
Conversely, if we lose by even one point, thousands of UM fans and media tools will sustain compound fractures and broken necks when leaping off the bandwagon they so desperately climbed aboard a week ago. All of the bad things RR has been accused of over the last 2++ years will be brought up for endless regurgitation in the media, some recruits will give UM the stinkeye, and A2 Torch & Pitchfork will place emergency orders with the factory in China.

I think you are right. The reason I spend so much time reading this blog is because this is one place where clear thought prevails through dissemination of accurate information (along with a touch of homerism). Michigan fans are generally smart about football, but so few spend time understanding the team. They need more KNOWLEDGE.

yes

If ND was a part of the Big 10 and played a similar schedule, they would be part of that bottom 3...
September 9th, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
UM needs this one, only because the schedule starts to get harder once your conference games start up. Kelly is new and even if the score 7000-0, with Denard running for 80000 yards and 1000 TDs, Kelly will still be around in 3 or 4 years.
You simply cannot stifle the murmurs circling RichRod, horrible records, sanctions etc.

Anyone that pays attention to UM football also knows that most of the rumors flying around are to get ppl to tune into radio/tv shows and not because there is any substance to them. Michigan opponents latch onto these rumors in hopes that RR will leave because once the system is in place and he can recruit his players nationally, UM will be a very scary program. FEAR the future and the future is now.

There are way too many of these clowns spewing out their forecasts on TV and elsewhere. Just ignore them. The average reader of this blog knows far more about both teams.

IMHO I think we need it more. This game will serve as a litmus test. If we lose against ND then we are prolly gonna struggle again in the confrence and we will be lucky to get to a bowl. If that be the case then RR will surely be gone and we will have to start all over again and it could be another 2 or 3 years before we get to a bowl. However if we win I think we will be undefeated going into the Iowa game (which I think is a very winnable game).

Mike Barwis says we always need it more.

What Don said and add in the fact that we just need to get a big win on the road.

It's not even close, Kelly has job security for at least the next few years. Rod needs some shock and awe this year to shut everyone up.
Look at how well he's recruited so far, can you even imagine what Rod could do in recruiting with job security?? God, it's giving me goosebumps.
