This is insane...too bad we all missed a lot of it cause we were watching Donovan score!
28-28
Isner (former NCAA singles champ at Georgia) looks dead, but when you're 6-8 and serving on grass you've always got a shot.
31-30 (that's over five full sets worth of tennis)
33-33
Amazing. I was just about to post this.
I've been watching since 25-25. This is unbelievable.
I want to watch all of it, but I'm not sure if I have enough time...
Does a war of attrition like this become just boring?
Day 5.
Men play tennis too?
Closing in on 8 hours. Man...
This is just goddamn ridiculous at this point. They both look so distraught when they are readying to serve.
I'll be sad if it's an anti-climatic finish where it gets postponed until tomorrow, and someone throws down a break in the first game and wins the match.
only a few more hours until this match spans 3 days
over 150 Aces total. 85 for Isner
Maybe the Queen can call in and end this thing.... Make an exception for a tiebreaker. They are going to have to cart Isner off.
Well, ESPN2's went back to soccer - I guess its time to get back to being productive.
ESPN3. So much for productivity.
47-46
This is unbelievable.
It's not often that records are broken so extensively, by so wide a margin. This is literally the most extraordinary thing to happen in tennis, perhaps in all of sports, in quite a while.
Well at least since the soccer game this morning.
I went to the YMCA to shoot hoops for a while. When I left it was 33-33. I came back over an hour later and they were still playing. This has gotten beyond ridiculous.
Isner with 92 aces and leads 49-48.
and 300 winners to just 50 unforced errors
With two more aces, Mahut will also break the previous record for most aces in a match with 78.
100 games and counting.
Isner looks lethargic right now.....I get tired just watching him move.
1 hour until sunset and a day 3.
Wow, at 53 all I thought Isner was about to get broken. Now he has a good chanced at winning it 55-53. This is insane.
Nope, back to the status quo.
Yep. Sorry Isner for jinxing you.
Honestly though, what will happen if it gets postponed another day? Their round 2 match is tomorrow. The winner will just have to forfeit basically.
I'd have to believe that they'd postpone the next match. There would be an outcry if they made the winner play again in the same day.
That'd be pretty cool... all of Wimbledon grinding to a halt because of this one game. They were saying on ESPN 2 that there's a pretty good chance the winner won't play tomorrow because they have other matches that they need to clear/got held up because of this one.
As an American and a fan of Isner I'm obviously rooting for him, but you must give some credit to Mahut. Admittedly he hasn't faced much danger, but even so the fact is he has stepped to the line 55 consecutive times knowing that being broken is the end. Impressive stuff from both players
It is amazing. I was going to go to the gym about 4 hours ago but can't stop watching this match. Since Isner's serve is so amazing, he is pretty much just waiting for Mahut to make mistakes.
Go to the gym. Watch the end tomorrow after you've rested up.
When it reached 28-28, I DVR'd the rest. Only problem is that I think my recording is about to end. Unreal.
You can just delete it, because it's still the same situation as 28-28!
Mahut's stamina has been inhuman, his diving winner when it was 53-53 (I believe) was just unfathomable. I've run out of adjectives to describe this match.
the French guy should surrender
You'll see them in golf sometimes.
I'll drive this one WAYYYYY back into that thick woods there. You know... away from the TV cameras."
Haha but how many other sporting events can go nine hours?
Hand me a Kama Sutra and a couple of co-eds and I can sport one for 12 hours!
Cricket matches can go days.
Right - because cricket matches are often designed (it varies) to go on for days. Tennis matches are always designed to take only a few hours.
