Submitted by TheJoker on

DJ Carton comes in at 23 and is now a 5-star(!!!). Jalen Wilson checks in at 29 and is 4 spots off 5-star status. Deep runs into the tournament seem to be paying off. Go Blue!

Anthony - went from 7 to 2. Absolute stud, but not the #2 prospect in the country in my opinion

Brooks - went from 16 to 9.  No doubt he's a 5star, that is the appropriate range in my opinion

McDaniels - jumped from 89 to 10. Well deserved, and a bit too low to be candid.

Carton - jumped from 37 to 23. Haven't seen him live this year, but my gut tells me that's probably a bit too high. I think 37 was about right

Wilson - dropped from 15 to 29. The drop is warranted, and I still don't think he's a top 30 player. I think he's a 40-60 type when all said and done

Watts - jumped from 73 to 47. High volume scorer that's a solid 4 star, don't think he's quite top 50 material though

Weems - went from 56 to 51. Appropriate range in my opinion

Agbonkpolo - dropped from 59 to 69. Appropriate range in my opinion, but upside is high

Timme - jumped from 91 to 77. Should perhaps be a bit higher, but not ridiculous

Beverly - dropped from 66 to 79. Appropriate range in my opinion. A top 75-100 type

Williamson - huge jump. Might be a bit too low

Withers - made his debut. Too low in my opinion

Girard - jumped from 165 to 157. Appropriate range in my opinion

Can you elaborate why you think Jalen Wilson's drop was warranted and why Girard being in that ~150 range is appropriate?

Also, while getting Carton and Wilson aren't definite at this point, in regards to Michigan looking at a 3rd guy, who do you think that could be? And do you think we have any chance with McDaniels?

I preface this by saying that rankings, at least in my view, should reflect translation to the next level (IE college) at beyond.

Wilson - not a great athlete, doesn't have any one skillset that is good (let alone great), volume scorer that is inefficient against good, not great competition, on the Adidas circuit. Bottom line is that he's an average athlete, with an above average skillset and a college ready frame. I view him as a 3/4 that is likely a 3rd option in college. Solid player but not a 5star talent by any means.

Girard - just don't think his game translates very well at the next level in terms of two-way impact. He's only a legit 5'11-6. Very limited athlete, cannot create his own shot at the next level and will likely be picked on at the defensive end. I think what you're left with is a prospect that requires a coach to scheme him open looks in order to be effective.

McDaniels - I talk with him/his camp every day and we certainly have a chance. Regardless of what mainstream sites say on the matter, San Diego State isn't a real factor at this point even with his brother. Texas is the school that he has the best relationship with this at this point. Washington will be obviously be in the mix as the hometown school. Michigan is certainly in the mix, but we have some ground to make up..........the fact that he put us in his de facto top 5 speaks volumes as to the staff's current interest and contact level and whether its reciprocated. Its still early in his recruitment because he's from Seattle and hasn't had a high level of exposure until now. With Juwan in his ear I have a feeling we have a legitimate chance here.

"Come to Texas where you'll receive zero offensive instruction and lose in the first round or miss the NCAA Tournament altogether, all the while having to hear fans complain about Rick Barnes taking over a moribund Tennessee program and turning it into a top SEC team!"

...or something like that

Agree with you on Wilson.  I wrote my opinion on him i beleive yesterday.  Pretty much matches what you state.  Should be ranked somewhere 50-100.

I would actually probably prefer Weems to Wilson.  Both solid, but Weems with more upside.

Mcdaniels - amazing.  game changer.  I like your optimism on him, but this is a kid most here are better off not watching videos of because he is that good, and most likely not coming here.

I seem to be a bit higher on Carton. I believe his new ranking is pretty accurate at low 5-star.  Much better athlete than most are giving him credit for.  His jumping ability and first step is pretty amazing.  He is also a very strong finisher.  I really like the kid.

Matt D, if you are talking to McDaniels' camp every day, we need a bit more production out of you to close this gap. You are approaching UMbig11 status. You'll be beyond umbig11 once you close this deal.

before I reach umbig11 status. While I always stay professional during my interactions with prospects and their respective families and close ones, I will slip in a pro-Michigan perspective when appropriate. Its becoming much easier to do that these days with all the recent success on both the court and the recruiting trail.

I think McDaniel is The piece that gets us over the national title hump. I think the other guys are nice, but he is a game changer, especially in Beilein’s offense.

I think weems will end up here with one of carton and Wilson . I think he will develop very well while still growing . His offensive rebounding and ability to play defense is what we need .
