We need to get back to 2016/2017 recruiting levels. I don't care what anyone says about an OSU baseball commit or 2 star guys with lower power 5 offers being underrated. We haven't shown that these guys are underrated on the field in the fall through three years of Harbaugh.

but even on the defensive side of the ball underrated guys like Josh Metellus couldn't keep up with OSU's speed. Our best unit in the Harbaugh era appears to be the DL which is the area we have recruited the best. Our worst is the OL which is the position we have recruited the worst. We have some underrated guys that are good like Mckeon but the vast majority of our starters are 4/5 stars.

Defense is something that you can learn and get a lot better if you have tools. If you are an offensive skill position player worthy of stars, it’s hard to be terribly underrated. Simply being big and fast gains stars, and/or putting the ball in the end zone and piling up yards gains stars. If you can’t be productive in high school, it’s unlikely that you will be a star at Michigan.

2016

Eubanks - looked good, but not much PT yet

McDoom - some usage, not much PT

K Hudson - looks great

Uche - RS Sophomore - not much PT yet

Spanellis - RS Sophomore - not much PT yet

McKeon - solid contributor

Metellus - solid contributor

Gil - competing for a spot

Dwumfour - RS Soph - ready to contribute

Nordin - RS Soph - contributing

gone - Mbem-Bosse

gone - Nate Johnson

gone - Kingston Davis

never made it to campus - D Johnson

so most are either contributing, in line to contribute, or not with the program

2017 3-stars

only Hawkins, Woods, Paye, Mason and Robbins played - the rest red-shirted - these 5 are decent players

so not bad with the 3-stars still here tbh

for good measure. He was a 3*, but he was the #1 kicker and kickers don't get 4*s. That means that there were 12 3*s in the class (Eubanks was a 4*). They're going on their 3rd year.

Of the 12 remaining, there is one absolute, no doubt star. That's Khaleke. No doubt about it, that's a win.

There's 2 good, solid starters/starting caliber players. That's Metellus and McKeon.

There's 4 guys no longer with the program.

Of the rest, McDoom has 13 career catches, Gil hasn't been much else besides special teams, though he has a ton of potential, Spanellis is coming on, but is on the outside looking in. Dwumfour and Uche look really good. We do have success with 3*'s, but we have so much more success and a higher hit rate with blue chip players.

The non-3*s in the 2016 Class:

Rashan Gary- Star

Ben Bredeson- multiple year starter, good offensive lineman

David Long and LaVert Hill- Very good starting corners.

Devin Asiasi- Great TE, transferred back home

Mike Onwenu- Projected starter

Chris Evans- Good APB

Devin Bush- Missile, All B1G linebacker

Brandon Peters- Jury is still out

Carlo Kemp, Ron Johnson, Kekoa Crawford, Kareem Walker- A good DL, a guy without much playing time, a decent receiver, and a promising back that hasn't seen the field much yet.

Obviously we can find hidden gems, the point is, the hit rate for more talented players is way better. That being said, it's important to differentiate between a beginning of the cycle 3* and an end of the cycle 3*. Lots of guys are given a generic 3* due to lack of scouting, so I wouldn;t hold the current rankings with too much weight.

some three stars out perform expectations and become stars. Recruiting rankings aren't the end all, be all. But they're pretty damn indicative of future success, and it's a hell of a lot harder to scout and develop. A school like Michigan honestly should be consistently bringing in top ten talent.

34% of the 24/7 top 50 recruits in 2014 were drafted in the first two rounds of the draft.

36% in 2013 were taken in the first two rounds.

30% in 2012.

The point is, the guys consistently with the absolute highest ceiling and ability are the blue chippers. A higher percentage of top 50 guys get picked in the top 50 of the NFL Draft than Michigan 3 stars actually becoming a starter.

All of you guys need to remember that at the moment you are complaining about star rankings with kids that haven't even finished their Junior years - Still have yet to see the results of any camps that the kids have attended (or will attend) and the impact on their rankings. Honestly, the recruiting rankings are still extremely early in the process. Much will change.

And to further that, a lot of these "3 stars" currently committed have major power 5 offers. There's a reason we are getting these kids now instead of as "fillers" - the staff really believes these are excellent to elite prospects near or at the top of their position lists.

All that being said, I just think it's wise to save the concerns until after rankings get closer to official.

which WR's have outperformed rankings and/or expectations?  or QB?  just off the top of my head but no one jumps out at either spot going back a few years.

im genuinely curious what youre referencing - interested if its an article or some source backed by legit stats, etc, as opposed to a simple tweet or proclamation from jimmy jerkoff

I was looking for the 3-star outrage in the Hello post and didn't see any. Now I feel right at home.

This is unacceptable: Warinner can't recruit, and Harbaugh is all sizzle and no steak, distracting his team with trips to France and all that swishy croissant and espresso nonsense.
