TomVH: Big House BBQ Visitor List
[Bumping this to the top because it's relevant for today - Tim]
You asked for it.......multiple times, so here it is. I was going to wait, but I figured it would give everyone something to do. This is the same as the Spring Game list, this can change, it's not set in stone, and it's only the people I've confirmed so far. There are more people coming (I'm assuming), I just haven't gotten in touch with them yet.
Yes
- OL Anthony Zettel - He said he probably won't pull the trigger.
- DE Chris Rock - He also said he probably won't commit. It's getting close, though.
- DT Darian Cooper - He's very excited to come see Michigan. He'll be in with his mother.
- Corey Marshall - Supposed to be there, not 100%
- WR AJ Jordan - He'll be there (as of now), and he's pretty excited about it.
- Commit DE Brennen Beyer
- LB Branden Jackson - Michigan has a good chance here, he's from PA.
- DB Dondi Kirby - He'll know by Friday if he's going, or not. He lives in PA, so it's not too far for a last minute decision. If he comes, LB Armstead Williams will be coming with him. They're best friends, and travel together, and potentially want to go to school together. They're both going to wait until signing day, but Michigan is in good favor with both of them.
- OL Ryan Kelly - One of the newer offers from Ohio, which you can read about here.
No
- LB Sean Duggan - He was invited (this is more of an invitation event, so not a lot of random people will be showing up), but can't make it.
- WR Damiere Byrd - Hasn't been hearing much from Michigan lately. I'm assuming it's because we're in on Spiffy Evans, AJ Jordan, Sammy Watkins, and DeAnthony Arnett.
- DE Deion Barnes - No ride, and didn't know about the event. (No invite)
- LB Kris Frost - Unfortunately his family can't afford the trip again. He's rescheduling for the summer.
- RB Demetrius Hart
- LB Lamar Dawson - He's coming out with a top list in the next week, or two. He's going to try to visit this summer.
- DB Daren Kitchen - Too far, and he plans on camping this summer. If he has an offer when he comes up for camp, expect him to commit, or already be committed. He told me there's a 90% chance he'll commit to Michigan. LSU has been recruiting him (he's from LA), but he really likes Michigan right now. He loves Charles Woodson, and thinks he can be a big corner like him. Kitchen is 6'2", 175 lbs.
- OL Aundrey Walker - Glenville....(insert fart noise here).
- TE Ray Hamilton - Can't make it
- DB Dondi Kirby - He's not coming. if he's going, or not. If he would've made it, LB Armstead Williams would have come with him. They're best friends, and travel together, and potentially want to go to school together. They're both going to wait until signing day, but Michigan is in good favor with both of them.
- OL Ray Ball - Recently offered. He was very honest to me when we spoke. He said he does really like Ohio State and Wisconsin, despite the fact that OSU hasn't offered. He said he's from Ohio, so he just likes OSU because of that. He also told me that he's excited to see what Michigan has to offer, and despite his interest in the other two schools, it doesn't mean Michigan won't get a fair look. (side note: He sounds like a really respectable, religious kid. I was impressed with him, and also he's a giant). His uncle moved the visit to June 5th, they have some things going on right now.
Wash likes Michigan according to TomVH. I don't have a link, but he mentioned that at one point.
(eg Wormley) or is it for 2011 only?
I was wondering the same thing. I guess I really have little knowledge of the BBQ. I have paid attention to the Spring game each year but have never checked out this event. I searched the site and mainly found topics on whi is and is not attending (and even past years.) Anyone willing to give a quick overview of the BBQ?
Correct me if Im wrong Tom, but I believe Ray Ball is/was a spartan fan growing up?
I read the story on him on GBW yesterday, do we really need more defensive backs? I mean obviously we've offered several since the commitment of Delonte, but are we expecting an offer to go his way? It seems pretty silly that we would bring in 3 CBs (I know, Brown will probably end up a deep safety) the year after bringing in 4 (or 3), especially with the lingering issue of class size.
I both agree and disagree with you. First, I do think we need to take another DB, but he should be a guy who will play either CB or deep safety. I don't think we need another big, run stopping safety in this class. We have about 6 (or more) of those on the current roster, many of whom are talented.
However, I'm not sure I love how many offers we're giving out to DB's. Obviously the coaches know more than I do, but I feel like since we only need one more DB, we should only offer the guys very high on our list, and if they don't bite, offer the other guys in September.
Thats what I was thinking, that if we accepted another DB this year it would have to be someone along the lines of Doran Grant or Nick Waisome
Well, kind of. I meant more that we only offer guys like that now. If it's later in the game and those guys are all gone, I still say we take a guy like Kitchens or Showers, but maybe as the back-up plans.
When you need 3 or 4 guys at one position, you need to offer a bunch. When you only need one guy to bite, you can be pretty selective, at least early on.
What's the word with Dwight Trammer the LB out of Det. and Ron Tanner the Safety out of Columbus he was once high on Michigan.
Trammer is way, way, wayyyyy down the pecking order. So far down, he may not be on the radar at all at this point.
And Tanner will be a Buckeye.
I don't think Trammer is a Michigan-level prospect. The only reason we really know his name is because he's been hanging around Michigan with Devin Gardner and Cameron Gordon. If we hadn't recruited a couple other kids from Inkster, Trammer probably wouldn't be on the radar at all.
He's being put on the back burner. He was going to come for the spring game, but Hart came, so it was all eyes on him.
LB Kris Frost - Unfortunately his family can't afford the trip again. He's rescheduling for the summer.
I thought official trips were paid for but this is twice his family has been unable to make it due to travel expenses. What am I missing?
Official visits happen during the season and after up until the final weekened before Signing Day. Stuff in the spring and summer are unofficial and come out of the kid's/kid's parents' pockets.
Thanks for the response. I wasn't aware of that and it makes a lot of sense.
Do we know anything about Trey Depriest? I know Sam Webb said he was a maybe as of yesterday, do we have any news on his status?
which is pretty telling. just not meant to be, its ok though as there are many other LBs we can still get
That ship has pretty much sailed.
I had gotten over him and then Sam Webb mentioned him again and my heart skipped a beat. Oh well. I hope Turene's grade problems get sorted out and we offer, he just got offered from Bama according to TomVH
can i get an update on the menu? i never really thought Southeast MIchigan had a lot of great BBQ of the typical southern variety. Slows in the D is an exception. or is it more burgers and dogs? anyone know what they are eating, who is catering?
I sure hope it's more than burgers and hot dogs.
Bust out the brats and ribs and whole pork roaster....
Can anyone comment on the overall number of attendees and how that might compare with last year?
There were definitely more kids there last year, but it's a different event this year. They wanted to keep it more intimate and kind of on an invite only type of event. There are fewer scholarships to give out, so they brought in kids that they really like, and would really like to make an impression on.
Thanks for the info.
I have seen confirmation that AJ Jordan, Rock, Zettell, Cooper, Marshall, and Brandon Jackson all made it to your BBQ
i have heard ND has a similar event, it includes a three hour long mass starting at 7 am, mandatory Latin classes till 12:00, then a lunch of head cheese sandwiches, another mass, then the BBQ, which is strictly blood sausage and boiled potatoes. and nuns, lots and lots of nuns.
No thats every Sunday, not really that special of an event when there are 52 of them in the year, looses its pizzazz after the first 40 or so. But don't knock those BBQ boiled potatoes, good eatin =)
Show everyone that trick where you swallow this whole.
We could give some of these folks an MGoMicroFinance Loan to subsidize tickets....
a Roald Dahl reference pop up in a thread about recruiting, with people knowing it's not referring to a 4-star DB out of South Carolina.
For my money, there's little better than Danny, Champion of the World.
