Jalen Hurts

Submitted by Supa Hot Fire on

The sportsmanship displayed by Jalen Hurts in that game today was unbelievable. The way he was benched after being 25-2 as a starter, in the championship he dreamed of getting back to after last years' loss, and still supported his backup and team was amazing. We can all learn from it.

As an aside, Bama next year with this freshman is a scary thought. By far the best quarterback they have ever had.

EDIT: Best QB under Saban and in terms of talent. Most have been game managers

Dude must be the best ever!! But in actuality it was a smart counter-punch by Saban to go with a guy who probably wasn't scouted much attacking away from the opposing defense's strength. Simple as that, really.

I won't be shocked if the kid has a good if unremarkable Alabama career that leads to a beautifully lit Tom Rinaldi piece emphasizing his grass roots upbringing, his off the beaten path discovery by Saban, and his legacy for "The Comeback".

Legendary status for the win, but lets not conflate being in the right place at the right time for being an all-time great.

If that's the case, your homeboy Cardale Jones thanks you.

I think the accuracy is being overplayed a bit. The last throw was magnificent, but he had a couple of others that he was absolutely bailed out on, and a few others that he simply missed his man.

- Jeudy made a catch on the sideline on that last TD drive in regulation that he had to make a full extension for even though there wasn't a soul within 7 yards of him.

- Ridley's TD was meant to be thrown to the guy in the back of the endzone and would have come up 5 yards short if not for ridley making a fantastic play.

- Mid third corner, Tua had a guy running a post route to the back of the endzone and he over threw him

-Jeudy on a wheel route into the endzone was overthrown.

-The interception

-The Screen to ridley that was underthrown

-The Screen to Ruggs was missed on the next play, albeit under immense pressure.

I realize that this was an increibly tough situation for a true freshmen with no experience to be tossed in, but when I can simply think of 7 plays of pure inaccuracy off the top of my head (could be more) out of 24 passes, it is hard to credit him with pinpoint accuracy. He did some nice things, clearly showed potential, and obviously was a huge part of the combeack effort, but there were also plenty of clear mistakes made by the kid.

I agree. He made the play that counted, and good for him. But an elite QB he is not (yet). He made some boneheaded mistakes that Georgia didn't make him pay for. When it counted though he executed and that remains the difference. I'm really happy for the kid, but we need more data to say what level of talent he is or isn't.

Jalen Hurts deserves all the positive words for the classy way he handled himself during the game, as opposed to the LB on special teams who has some "issues"!

However, being Alabama, something tells me that soon, Hurts is asked to come to a meeting with Saban and Daboll.  Brady Bunch music is playing and stops.  Daboll starts off the conversation with "Let me tell you a story about a man named Brady....."  Back up comes in, shines and is now the man.  Jalen, thanks, here are your transfer papers and don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out!

Will make a freshman look really good. I really shitty offensive line will get two starting quarterbacks killed.

Everybody hurts... sometimes

Yeah, he was classy and a good sport, but that doesn't excuse Saban from leaving Moore in the game. Come to 'Bama, where it's OK to attack your coaches!

bother him because this was the plan since the Auburn loss. Your out of your mind if you believe Saban just brought the back in out of the blue. They had been preparing the freshman for this all year. The whole team had been prepared for Tua to possibly replace Hurts at some point. It’s still balzy by Saban to replace a QB that was 25-2 at half time just because it goes against all coaching philosophies. The short term ramifications are not the only negatives if they had lost. I mean where does Hurts go from here? Compete for QB or just switch to RB or WR? I’ll never believe that this move had never been discussed or planned for.
