Marcus Ray leaving WTKA

Marcus Ray@Marcus_Ray29 Ive decided to drop the mic & relieve myself of my duties on the @The_MZone & #RaysofLight segment with @SamWebb77 on @michiganinsider. I appreciate the platform & opportunity. I’ll still be on tv/calling games in 2018 #SuckaSeason #RayRocTop25 #BrothaLove #HookItUp #Northside https://twitter.com/marcus_ray29/status/945815844336164864

His schtick of being a Michigan contrarian on the Michigan home radio station was not a very bright strategy. He was almost as annoying as Valenti. Glad to see he's moving on. Despite my dislike for his radio persona I do wish him the best of luck in the future.

I generally felt I could learn from him when he focused on that. Unfortunately his on-air personality and demeanor was so sullen and disinterested when the focus wasn't directly on him that he was unlistenable. Even Sam got after him on-air one morning after a particularly petulant rant. I completely stopped listening to the M-Zone months ago because it was simply not worth waiting for the valuable stuff. I think he's got things to contribute, but he has to get over himself first.

I listened to his podcasts a few times on The Wolverine. He was awful. Whether he was butchering metaphors or idioms, or the English language, or claiming he predicted ahead of time what transpired in the game, I quickly found him unbearable. On the other hand, if you haven’t listened to Doug Skene’s podcasts or “In The Trenches”, you’re missing out. He’s excellent and should be on TV. He would immediately be in the top 2-3 analysts in football, IMO.

Mediocre analyst at best. I don't get why those two things can't be true to some of you.

I'll double down and say that as much as I loved Terry Mills as a player, he has got to be one of the worst color commentators on the radio.  Just terrible.  Incoherant half the time and he thinks he's on TV with his descriptions - as if we are all watching it with him.  It doesn't mean I appreciate his days on the court any less.  Get a grip people.

Most of the guys were in their early to mid-30's when Harbaugh spouted off.

I agree with them. JH was no rocket scientist while at UM -- his meme that "I was told not to major in history" is BS (he was dyslexic and would have failed).

I liked when he talked schemes and such but he is very, very arrogant and thinks he is the smartest defensive mind in the world. He continuously said over the last few months he could go toe to toe with any defensive coaches and teach them a thing or two. Surprisingly, he’s not even a coach at the HS level anymore. See ya

When he was at CMU coaching for Butch Jones, he took many HS coaches out to the coaches social at summer football camp.  Let's just say he wasn't behaving and was an embarrassment to CMU.

Good luck to him.

I think expecting him to jump from an hour segment once a week to 4 hours of co-hosting 5 days a week was a miscalculation. Enjoyed his stories, the one about the Northwestern running back coach who recruited him was pretty funny, think he's much more suited to a Rays of Light segment.

The awkward silences recently were very cringe inducing, I wonder if Jamie got tired of carrying the show all of the time. I remember mark from lansing calling and essentially easking them if they were high, neither really gave much of a response.

Guess this means we get more of Rick Leach's son Matt. Sigh. Guest says something,Matt says pretty much the exact same thing in a slightly different way, repeat. Someone needs to tell him he can just say, "Yeah, I agree," every once in a whle.

Great player, horrible analysts who seemed to have a closet hate for anything Michigan that wasn't the 1997 team. Also sometimes his scheme analsys was wrong, and felt he knew everything when it came to defense and always knew what was going to happen after it happen.

Marcus also seemed to have a clear preference for the guys from The Wolverine (John Borton, Chris Balas, etc.). I’m guessing because they clearly kiss his ass where the WTKA callers seem to question his critism. Crazy, fans of a team might be critical of the guy who criticized said team? Unfortunately, Marcus’ “keep it real” approach only included saying nice things about Ohio State and not Michigan. Sad!

Since that's all he talks about anyway. Did you guys know he's from Columbus? And knows the neighborhoods too? Good player, hard to listen to on the air. It shouldn't be hard to find someone better.
