Yes, no special reason though.

Yeah, the only time I ever…

Yeah, the only time I ever watch the NIT is when UofM is in it, and I'm sure that holds true for most college basketball viewers for their respective teams as well, unless they're serious gamblers/college basketball sickos, but it still keeps going so it must make some form of profit.

Fox somehow thinks they can get into the market, so they must think there's enough demand. This is also on top of there being an rumblings that the NCAA wants to expand the tournament even more.

Whoo!!!!

Whoo!!!!

Good thing they got him as…

Good thing they got him as quick as they did then, huh?

https://twitter.com…

I like it, we'll see how things go, transfer portal opens soon.

I like Rahk and May over…

I like Rahk and May over Medved because they actually have experience in recruiting higher level recruits, not sure how well Medved could work D2 and D3 transfers here. Any of those 3 I'd be quite happy with, although Medved is 3rd for me. Probably end up being someone entirely different.

I think also there is a…

I think also there is a perception that some on the academic side are less than enamored with the attention athletics get here, Schlissel having been one and possibly some of the various schools not being willing to bend their standards in regards to accepting transfer credits, whether that's related or not.

Just saw it and enjoyed it,…

Just saw it and enjoyed it, thought it was better than part one, also I liked the changes from the book, helped to keep things streamlined.

Pretty sure the Greeks were…

Pretty sure the Greeks were there first, especially since it's a Greek word.

Crazy year, Go Blue!

Crazy year, Go Blue!

It's happening!!!

It's happening!!!

They’re just getting started

His sad, head down walk…

His sad, head down walk through the tunnels is my new favorite image of him.

I'm 95 % sure Julian May…

I'm 95 % sure Julian May used the term "howling fantods" in her Pliocene Saga which she wrote in the early 1980's, whether that would have pre-dated DFW's Mom's use of it, I have no idea.

If they actually had…

If they actually had regionals in our area on occasion they might get some support from the B1G. Pittsburgh is not regional for 90% of the B1G. How about Detroit or Columbus or Chicago being regional sites on occasion, those are much more driveable for our conference. Ohh, but then the east coast people would have to do some traveling, can't have that.

Take your thumbs up, damn…

Take your thumbs up, damn you!

I don't think it's anything…

I don't think it's anything special, but I have no desire to ruin others enjoyment of it, just have to shrug at people who love it.

They could always re-sign…

They could always re-sign him as a free agent if they really want to/he wants to come back.

There's also a chance Yzerman packages all these draft picks to get a player, which I think is what I would prefer as even high end draft picks are an unknown and take time to develop. Still a day to go and then there could also be offseason moves.

I'm just glad they're…

I'm just glad they're keeping themselves in the conversation, this time last year they had fallen apart more or less. They've been improving incrementally the last few years, I hope they can make the leap this year.

Larkin being on a tear is a big part of it, but also the increased depth. Who expected Pius Suter to have 5 goals in 5 games? And finding a spot for Vrana was really tough because most of the guys are playing well, even though Zadina isn't scoring at the level you want he is playing energetic, defensively responsible hockey. Also there's Fabbri, and Rasmussen and Veleno both seem  improved. The d-corp is better, Hronek's resurgensce and Walman and Maata are surprises, and Husso is super solid.

I still think they're a player or 2 away from being regular playoff contenders, but it looks as if they're headed in the right direction.

What exactly do you want…

What exactly do you want Edwards to do in that situation? The opponent is skating straight towards him, it even looks like he's looking at him, he's not coming at him from the side or behind. Should he bearhug him, or try for a steal instead, or turn it into a hip check so only his butt is hitting him? Wave politely as he skates by? I would think any coach seeing that situation would tell his player to hit him, and the other players coach would tell him he needs to keep his head up.

He needs to protect his own body somewhat with his arms when he goes in for the hit, can he try to keep them lower? Would it have been better to let him skate by and then give him a good BC 2-hander ? I'm assuming the fact that the guy ended up with a cut on his head, most likely from the impact on the ice after the hit, swayed the refs. I just don't see what the alternative is to hitting him, if you don't you're not doing your job. I'm open to suggestions.

My Dad took me several times…

My Dad took me several times in the early 80's when I was a kid, he had a buddy who was an usher and I would wander for half a period or so while they would catch up with each other. They were usually during matinees and the place would be maybe a quarter full, if that. I loved it, felt like I had the place to myself, I could basically sit where I wanted, but I remember some poor disgusted fan barking at me once, probably because the were down 6-2 or something like that and I annoyed him. Good times.

I generally enjoy it , but I…

I generally enjoy it , but I have to say the matchups this year have been really underwhelming so far, other than the EMU game can't say I've paid very much attention. Hoping the quality picks up the closer we get to New Years, but we'll see.

It was cradled in his hand…

It was cradled in his hand the whole way until it hit the ground. Did it come away from his forearm a little, yes, but his hand still had a grasp on it.

Calling the ball loose there…

Calling the ball loose there is pretty spotty, looked me like the ground caused the fumble.

I have to go back to the…

I have to go back to the Mgoblog wide receiver preview and how overly optimistic it was:

https://mgoblog.com/content/preview-2022-wide-receivers.

This is a quote : Michigan's backup receivers would probably start just about anywhere in the conference not named Ohio State.

I thought this was pretty hyperbolic, but I did expect good things, not what we've gotten. The loss of Gattis in the pass game? It's definitely concerning for the OSU game and beyond.

That's fair, but NJ is a lot…

That's fair, but NJ is a lot like the Wings in being a team hoping to improve while Montreal will have a real shot at getting the #1 pick again, while LA is coming off of making the playoffs and may have a chance to do so again, early season results notwithstanding.

I'm loving the Redwings so…

I'm loving the Redwings so far, but they've also done it against teams unlikely to make the playoffs. Maybe LA on Monday will be a tougher test.

I think the approach is…

I think the approach is supposed to be that the hardcore fans will come no matter what, and they try to rope in the fringe viewers with the bells and whistles. This may have worked when they were the only viable option, but now the competition has stepped up their game and actually provided watchable options.

I used to watch ESPN just to get scores/news from the bottom line, but that's next to impossible now, plus with websites I can see a score in a few seconds if I want. I'm not really interested in opinion pieces, I just want highlights or the games themselves, everything else is wasted on me.

Middle Tennessee State has 6…

Middle Tennessee State has 6 first downs and five touch downs.

With the whole "I've seen…

With the whole "I've seen things" I thought maybe Brian was going to tie it in to Roy Batty's monologue at the end of Blade Runner.

Alabma just can't get out of…

Alabma just can't get out of their own way.

I'm a little surprised at…

I'm a little surprised at how much people were loving it. I thought they were fine, but as long as you're not completely obnoxious I don't care all that much, either. Personally I wish the broadcast had shown more of the on the field shots then constant sideline/fan shots and pre-produced segments. I like to see them line up and see the formations and who is out there and it seems like they barely show that anymore, half the time it seems like they cut back right when the ball is being snapped.

I'm having some work related…

I'm having some work related computer issues, so not much to do. I recall this vaguely, I know there were some hard feelings on both sides by various people, I don't know if there were actual bans though. I think Brian got a little tired of having his work be picked apart by people in the comments, whether they had valid points or not. I did find this:

If you do the tour of the Guiness Brewery you get a complimentary Guiness at the end, he could just do 10-20 tours and he'll be feeling better.

Guess all that puking didn't help with the cardio as much as they thought, Nebraska looks tired.

Way to go super conservative…

Way to go super conservative Fitz, when your QB has been really good at moving the chains.

I really like Benetti, no…

I really like Benetti, no matter what he does. He even made Dan Petry better.

The guy named Pat Fitzgerald…

The guy named Pat Fitzgerald has to have the home field advantage in Dublin, right?

Just curious if you guys…

Just curious if you guys have ever thought of expanding the amount of posts shown on the front page? Right now it's at 7 and a moderately busy news day means a post may only stay on the front page for half a day or less. 10 or even 15 would allow posts to have a longer lifespan. Having said this, I have absolutely no idea what would be involved in doing something like that, so if its unfeasible or just aesthetically unpleasing I've got no problem with that.

I will throw in some…

I will throw in some Michigan news that I haven't seen posted on here, but it's possible I missed it, so that's why no new thread.

Mike Cammalleri's company BioSteel is going to be the official sports drink provider for the NHL.

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2022/07/23/ex-wolverine-cammalleri-expands-sports-nutrition-business-nhl-deal/10124333002/

Not bad. One of those Michigan players I was  always glad to see on the ice, nice to see he's doing well after hockey.

To be fair to Seth, EVERYONE…

To be fair to Seth, EVERYONE expected MSU to stink last year, and most people didn't expect Michigan to do much either, they were probably considered to be slightly better. Both teams did a lot better than expected.

Because he's always been…

Because he's always been kind of a space cadet? Didn't he essentially go pro so he could smoke weed or something? Not to slander the guy if that's not entirely accurate, but in essence it seems like it is.

Ehh, I like them. Hottest…

Ehh, I like them. Hottest takes, Sklar brothers, whoo!

What, you're saying Pius…

What, you're saying Pius Sutter is going to  be the 2nd line center? No Way.

This side-by-side comparison shows observations of the Southern Ring Nebula in near-infrared light, at left, and mid-infrared light, at right, from NASA’s Webb Telescope.

Today, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope reveals Stephan’s Quintet, a visual grouping of five galaxies, in a new light. This enormous mosaic is Webb’s largest image to date, covering about one-fifth of the Moon’s diameter. It contains over 150 million pixels and is constructed from almost 1,000 separate image files. The information from Webb provides new insights into how galactic interactions may have driven galaxy evolution in the early universe.

Some new images:

This landscape of “mountains” and “valleys” speckled with glittering stars is actually the edge of a nearby, young, star-forming region called NGC 3324 in the Carina Nebula. Captured in infrared light by NASA’s new James Webb Space Telescope, this image reveals for the first time previously invisible areas of star birth.

Yeah I was going off of what…

Yeah I was going off of what the NASA spokesman who spoke after BIden said, I am assuming the article is more accurate.

I am mildly disappointed it…

I am mildly disappointed it's not an exoplanet. I've seen shots of other galaxies before, and I do understand this is 13.6 billion year old light from near the beginning of the universe, but it's not really too different from other galaxy images I've seen.

That being said the zoomable image is really cool and I can't wait to see what else Webb produces. Posting a link for it:
