Exit JaRaymond Hall Comment Count

Sam Webb reports that freshman OL JaRaymond Hall is exiting the program. Hall enrolled early and then redshirted, and while he was one of the lower-ranked guys in the class he was another bullet in the chamber at a tackle position that needs as many as it can get.

OTOH, Webb reports that Hall might land at Iowa State or Arizona, so maybe this is a situation where the guy already feels he's behind a large number of classmates. Michigan brought in Chuck Filiaga, Andrew Stueber, and Joel Honigford last year and then moved James Hudson to tackle in fall camp. If Hall was fifth in that pecking order, with little near-term path to the field on the interior, that might be enough to bail this early.

FWIW, this brings Michigan to 15 open spots for this year's class, with 6-7 potential fifth year players who are either not projected contributors or borderline. Two to four of those guys probably won't be back. Also, Mike Spath reported a couple days ago that Alex Malzone would graduate in 3.5 years and seek a two-year gig elsewhere. A class from 20 to 22 seems likely. Michigan has 16 commits currently.

It will be right around 25 because thats what there aiming for. Bottom line is if Michigan and everyone on here wants consistents winners attrition is going to happen every year and it should if kids are allowed to make their own decisions which I am sure they are.

Bottom line is Jim Harbaugh is not going to bullshit anyone. If a kid or his parents ask about playing time or where they sit on the depth chart he is just going to be honest. These kids also know who is coming in behind them. That I believe is where a lot of attrition comes from also if a kid wants to play and is never going to see the field especially at OT.

Say Hall knows Michigan is picking up Frere. As far as I am concerned in two years one of the OT positions is gone just for example. This happens at all university's and in my opinion is completely nescessary to win and field the best team possible.

When a kid leaves after one or two years they are not being processed, they just want to play and have better chances elsewhere. It could be for other reasons also. They are not being bullied like I see osu fans wanting for kids who do not play to open scholarships. I think that would be a bad way to go and for the most part unnescesary.

It can be a positive for both parties if the kid just wants to play and will get his chance elsewhere. Hall is sitting behind guys that are just better than him and he wants to play. That would be my guess. It may also show that Newsome is going to come back healthy, thus pushing Hall further down the depth chart.

Hall is a good player, but this is Michigan football of old where some of the best in the country come to play. Also Hall can't just kick into guard because Michigan has more talent there.

Also I could be totally wrong and he likes some girl at asu. Who knows but I hope he does good for them or whoever because he seems to be a good kid. This does'nt have to be a bad thing and I am more than sure Hall is more than good with his decision. He just gets to play football somewhere else. New opportunities and experiences that I bet will be mostly positive for these guys transferring.

Transfers are always a little disappointing.  Want every recruit to work out at Michigan, but some times its just best for both.  Better sooner than later.

I hope everything is ok and good luck to the young man.

I hope this is by his choice, for his benefit.  It sucks when people leave, but so long as they're not pushed out it doesn't bother me.  I don't have any doubt that Harbaugh is dead honest with people, and he should be.  So I just think he made the choice between he and his family, for whats best for him.  Good luck, JaRaymond, wherever you end up.

To me, this means Filiaga, Honigford, Steuber, and Hudson are developing nicely. Best of luck to JaRaymond. This is probably the best move for him and for Michigan.

transfer going on here.  He probabliy just didn't feel like he was going to be able to compete and wanted to go somewhere where there was more likelihood of playing. Or maybe he just wasn't doing great academically.  Or maybe he just didn't like living in Ann Arbor.  It doesn't matter.  I hope he is successful wherever he goes.

If a kid is realizing that after a redshirt year where he didn't ever compete or Harbaugh is letting him know he has little chance of playing this early, then how can we still believe this is a meritocracy. He never even got a true opportunity
