Kinda Interesting Jedd Fisch Discussion

Submitted by George Pickett on

I realize there is no real reason for you to believe this, but I’m going to post it anyway because it’s true and somewhat interesting.

I was speaking with a good family friend of Jedd Fisch tonight.  According to him, Fisch was in line to be the next OC at Michigan and had already been in negotiations with Harbaugh at the end of last year.  He said they were both expecting Drevno to move back to California (I don’t know why).  When that didn’t happen, Harbaugh obviously couldn’t fire Drevno so Fisch left for UCLA.  Fisch desperately wants to be a head coach, and apparently he hates Jim Mora.  He’s privately hoping Mora is fired and the offense is good enough for him to be named the HC.

Take it for what it’s worth.

I think Pep has more to blame in the passing game. Is everyone forgetting that the last 2 years the general concensus was that while the offense was not elite by any means, it was cohesive, and that even when failed we rarely scratched our heads at a play call. I understand the run game struggling, blame Drevno for lack of development and recruiting, but we expected that. The pass game though just looks completely off from before. Fades to end zone? Fades down the sideline? QB's looking downfield when there are short passes available? Why have we only seen the crossing route Gentry scored on one time? How about moving the pocket to compensate for weak line (like teams do to counter our strong d-line)? We didn't have these issues last 2 years. Reminds me a lot of Charlie Weis Notre Dame, where he was trying to run schemes meant for Tom Brady when he had Brady Quinn.

For all those hoping to move on with new offensive coaches, I just checked their contracts.

Drevno was given a new contract during the off season = 5 years, $5.15 million.

Pep was signed for 4 years, $4.25 million.

Only school in the country with 3 assistant coaches at over $1 million each.

We can all hope that they get HC or NFL offers.  If not, we may well be stuck with this carnival for a while.

Offensive recruiting could also follow the same script, as mediocre results on the field will attract the corresponding level of talent.

I'm beginning to think that Harbaugh's loyalty to his coaching hires (read overgenerous contracts) could lead to his downfall, as we could be looking at the same sort of offensive flaws for the foreseeable future.

So basically, if he were still here he'd be on the verge of leaving (for a HC position).  If we need to hire a new OC, we probably wouldn't go back to him.

Interesting. I doubt jedd is their guy if the let mora go. So maybe he comes back and we let drevno walk. But I hope when it's time for a new OC hire it's not a Jim harbaugh conservative play caller. We need someone who like to pound the ball like harbaugh first but someone who is creative.
