This year vs last year

Question for the board: Would you take this year's starting ~ 22 vs. last year's?

Here's how I see it:

DL: Push+ (controversial at first glance but we're only takling about four dudes and not  those beyond them and while CW may be a bit of a downgrade and Mone a ?  relative to Glasgow I give it a push)

LB: Push (Peppers-to-Hudson offset by McCray + Bush)

Secondary: Obvious downgrade. only discussion is how much? Anyone's guess...

QB: Upgrade--likely minor

TE: Push (once again on the face of it questionable but I think with Bunting + Whealtey and company, the Butt loss will be not be felt as strongly as his individual accomplishments would suggest)

WR: Push - (Prretty straightforward discussions here. Lost two very solid WRs and replacing with a shitload of young talent. Could go Push - - or Push ++ or between)

RB: Push + (Straight forward)

OL: C-to-LT: Upgrade (Obvious)

OL RG-RT (I would say downgrade but then I heard the news that Ulizio was pushing JBB who I recall couldn't hold his own last year and Runyan a legacy recuruit, and I was like shit, let's upgrade that to super-hyped -- note this is me paraphrasing mgoboard and not my own thoughts)

EDIT: After considering feedback from the community, I have decided it was foolish for me to say anything negative about any units. Most importantly, it seems likely Nolan Ulizio will not only win the job at RT but he will serve in a manner than can only be compared to Jon Snow at the Wall. Godspeed Nolan. We wish you the best.

People are really overreacting to this thread. There has been so little football content the last couple weeks I'm okay with it. I think it's very reasonable to think the starring 22 have a chance to be better than last year's over the course of the season, but the depth is going to be problematic. Other than the secondary, we improve in terms of talent at every position group. A good QB can carry young receivers. The defensive line, offensive line and linebackers definitely have far more upside than last year. So much of this is simply guessing though. You can't know for sure until you see them in action.

how do you define better?  I don't think it's out of the question that the 2017 team could have a better record than the 2016 team.  At the same time, I don't know if we're going to see the same type of domination that we saw last year in the first 9 games.  Outside of Wisky and the first 20 minutes or so of the CU game, Michigan steam rolled through the first 9 games of the schedule.  I think we're going to see some tighter ball games this year.

This is my feeling as well. Harbaugh and the coaches did a great job with Brady's players and vice-versa. The reason I'm very excited about this season despite all of the departures is this will be the first year Harbaugh recruited players will start to play major roles. Throw in a QB with a full season under his belt and I think it equals a team that may not be as dominate game in and game out, but has the potential to win more games, most importantly, beat OSU.

Genuine question as I'm unsure if you're 100% trolling or if you're trolling and also want opinions on this year's team; Besides being a three star, what's the knock on uluzio from the other thread? He was reportedly doing very well last year before coming down with mono and losing a bunch of weight mid season. His tape looks pretty good and he didn't show up to many camps to get properly scouted iirc. Genuinely curious why you think this is such a bad thing

Go to bed and take a few days off this this blog. Come back when you grow up since you are high jacking threads and making them unreadable.

The original question is interesting, in that it's very hard to make an accurate evaluation if you're not on the coaching staff and watching the competitions at each position. To throw out some numbers: RichRod: 37 G, 27.6 PFPG, 30.7 PAPG, 6-18 Big Ten Record Hoke: 51 G, 29.2 PFPG, 21.6 PAPG, 18-14 Big Ten Harbaugh: 26 G, 35.8 PFPG, 15.2 PAPG, 13-4 Big Ten In 2016, with the guy few expected to win the QB job, Michigan scored more points than in any season since Fielding Yost was beating up on the Chicago Physicians and Surgeons (at least they didn't have to worry about not getting immediate treatment after a hard hit). The defense was the best since the last national championship team. But... we lost seven defensive players to the NFL draft in the first four rounds alone. On offense, the key losses are experienced and talented receivers. Is Ulizio's rise a concern or a good sign? I don't think you can show either side of the argument without a current scouting report on Ulizio. If he's playing because the more experienced options are failing, then that's bad. If he's simply taking the job away, that's good. We don't really know. We can look at his recruiting rankings from three years ago and say, "meh, 3-star," but there's a reality of where he is right now that answers your question. I try not to pay too much attention to anything before the first real game (unusually early this season).
