some good examples.  I just think that with such a young 2 deep there will be a couple or three games this season where Speight (or O'Korn?) will have to be the sort of QB that just takes over and wins it for M.

On the Conner Cook example, gotta admit that there were several games where Cook just made the throws in the 4th quarter that won games for MSU.  We already know that in terms of leadership and respect by his teammates Speight is already >>>>>> Cook.

The Luck example is a good one.  PossiblyTavita Pritchard was not as good as Speight was last year, so maybe it was easier for Luck to unseat him.  OTOH, Pritchard's supporting cast was not as good as Speight's, so it it hard to definitively conclude that Speight 2016 > Pritchard 2009.  Also, Pritchard was the QB when Stanford upset USC in L.A. in 2007.

if for whatever reason Peters unseats Speight, I hope M does not go 4-8!

Anyway, this analogy perhaps does not fit B/C Zaire never really established himself at ND as the solid no.1 QB the way Speight did least year.

Zaire got to start to ND due to Everett Golson inuries and then due to Golson's transfer.

Then Kizer beat out Zaire, not in camp, but after both Kizer and Zaire played in the first game of the season.

Sort of similar.  But ND had a very fliud starting QB situation going for a while and Zaire never really clearly won and held the job by beating out other guys the way Speight did last year.

Coming out of camp.  Speight will lead this team to the end barring injury.  The other guys are learning and growing, but Speight is and will be the starter this season.  And I expect he will do a great job.

It's possible Speight is just crushing camp and we are seeing his foundation from last year pay off. No way can you judge OKorn from the shit weather game. The kid has played a ton of football and been in Harbaugh's system for a couple years now. This may be all good.

that it's literally impossible for a young athlete in his physical prime to improve at specific skills over a year's time with hundreds of repetitions and elite coaching.

It's like believing in original sin and predestination.

Didn't OKorn play well in a passing spread system in Houston? Maybe the reported spread adjustments, the influx of receiving talent, and Pep Hamilton adjustments suit him and enable him to challenge Speight to a greater degree.
