Paging Bball Research Gurus - How do Beilein teams do on the 3rd game in 3 days?

Submitted by alum96 on

Absolutely fantastic theater these 2 days.

My worry pre tournament is my memories of some of the NBA player full UM games tiring later in BTT.  Maybe my memory is foggy but we seem to lose our sea legs - understandably - as a jump shooting team playing that 3rd game in a row.  I know the sample size is small but I'm curious how many times we've advanced to the 3rd game in a row and how our outside shooting looked those games.

Exaggerating that, we seem to be down to a 7 person rotation at this point and hitting a wall about 5 minutes into the 2nd half tommorow is a big worry.  Talk me out of it.

It hits me that Michigan would really be helped by having their first game Friday instead of Thursday. That would mean 4 full days of rest (M - Th.,) really five if you count half a day Sunday and half a day Friday. Also, the higher they are seeded, the weaker the team, meaning it takes less physical and mental energy in the first game.

The other thing, looking at the matchups, is asking how far we can go. This really has to do with the quality of the 1 seeds and the 2 seeds. If we are confident we could beat certain of the 1 seeds, we want to be seeded 4 or 5. If not, we want to be seeded 7 or 6. Either way, we have a better chance of making it out of the first weekend to the sweet 16. With a 4 or 5 seed, you probably face a 1 seed in the sweet 16. With a 6 or 7 seed, you probably face a 2 or 3 seed in the sweet 16, and a 1 seed int he elite 8. The deeper we go, the harder it is when several players have off days. But Michigan is going to have to play a lot better than they did today to be any 1 or 2 seeds, probably 3 seeds. Namely, we can't afford to have Wagner and Walton both having off days. If they are on, along with Irvin, Wilson, and Rahkman, we can play with anyone.
