Probably Yes and No. He's qualified...but it would be weird if Drevno wants the job as well. However, it would meet that rule even though the NCAA doesn't have that rule.

We didn't interview anyone else when we hired Harbaugh.

I'm wondering if Drevno left if Harbaugh would make Wheatley the Run Game Coordinator and give him a bump in pay.

It's only a matter of time before we lose one or both. I just hope it's AFTER we win that national championship.

Not ready to lose Wheatley. I think he is one of our best recruiters and seems to be a good coach as well. I know he is going to leave at some time, unless Harbaugh can make him an OC.

Personally, I think its a bad move for either guy. Both stand to have great careers as coaches and this is the pit-stop that will either show youre a football genious or makes you the next mediocre coach who couldn't live up to expectations. Why tarnish your reputation? For Drevno, he probably makes more money now. Wheatley, on the other hand will work harder and have a greater risk to his coaching legacy if he cant do what Fleck did. Is the draw to be the best coach to ever coach at Western Michigan? Really? Where is the silver lining? Why Western? Too much risk, not enough reward IMO. (Too much sugar for a dime).

Completely disagree. You have to take opportunities as they come. Neither of these guys is going to get a big-time power 5 head coaching gig next. But I bet both want one. So the next stop will, they hope, be a pit stop, wherever it is. Waiting for right place to create the next 2016 WMU, instead of taking on 2017 WMU, is silly. One could argue that any coach who takes the WMU job is moving into a place that now has a winning culture, and therefore it will be harder to not succeed. All the next coach there needs is a couple of 9 to 10 win seasons, and he is on his way up.

Remember, it is what the hiring committee at the next job thinks, not necessary the fans at the current job. Fans may unreastically expect 12 win seasons, but the hiring committee at the next job would understand its not reasonable.

Sounds like you want him to gamble on his career and be the next Ron English while some of these other former h.s. coaches who never even played, cruise into long term multi-million dollar contracts.

We both know that most coaches who stay with Harbaugh any significant time will go on to make lots of money.. Look at Kirby Smart, Tom Herman, David Shaw, DJ Durkin. If you believe Michigan will compete for championships soon, then opportunities will open because at least 5-10 good jobs open every year. Wheatley doesn't have to swing at the first pitch. I bet if he waits, he will get a walk to a great job just like these other guys with thin resumes.

Where is Ron English anyway????

I'm excited and happy for him and that he's taking these opportunities, but is anyone else upset that he may leave?
He's an unbelievable recruiter and our running game has grown tremendously under him. I would hate to see him go.
