Joe Maddon opens his presser by saying he showed up when all the "heavy lifting" had been done, praises Wrigley, praises the franchise, praises the players, praises his wife.

Best coach/manager in professional sports. Makes everything about exactly what it should be about.

He was a diehard Cubbies fan, and spent many a Saturday afternoon watching games with him. This was back when WGN was a local channel (9 for those of you outside of Chicagoland W/SW Michigan or N Indiana) instead of the superstation it is now. When Ernie Banks died last year, I thought of him. Little did I know, he too would be gone in a few months. I still can't believe they did it. Hell of a game and series.

Didn't he build teams that ended the droughts of the Red Sox and Cubs? What sad sack franchise wants to back a dump truck of money to Theo's house so he can win them theirs

Pretty sure the Cubs organization signed Theo to a several year ~$50M extension to continue on in the Cubs front office.  The Cubs have also locked up the vast majority of their young infield into multi-year contracts.  If they play their cards right, the Cubs could see a 108 year drought end with some pretty good/deep playoff runs for the next 5-10 years.
