It will be interesting to read the UFR and get Brian's take.  While Speight hit his targets, it still feels like he hits them a step slow, and his ball takes too long to get there.  There were a number of throws where our guys had to stop, slow, or adjust to the ball in a way that prevented YAC. That kind of stuff can kill drives against a good defense where you need to get all the yards to can when you get the opportunity. The Butt near-touchdown is an example of that; if he hits Butt in stride, he walks into the endzone.  Instead he had to make a tough catch on the 1.

Speight did make a number of great throws into small windows, it just seems like he is still a second late reading his progressions and reacting.

This is a bitch to read on mobile. But you didn't even include the INT numbers. I don't know Rudock's total through 8 games last year, but I do know he threw as many in the opener as Speight has thrown through 8 games.

The comparison has two weakness, imo.  Rudock was not familiar with the system or the receivers and once he was, his numbers went through the roof, while this is Speight's second year with Harbaugh.  The other factor is Rudock was an experienced QB with a couple of years under his belt as a starter; Speight had half a game of prior experience and none as a starter.

It's fun to compare things, but the differences make the numbers not as meaningful as would a comparison if the QB's were coming from the same program with the same coaching.

The one number that matters is 8-0.  That's pretty damn good.  I think Speight has a very big upside.  He works hard, is accurate and has great coaching. I'm feeling more and more comfortable with him as the QB.

The other factor that people seem to forget in the comparisons is that the entire offense was in year 1 last year, not just Rudock.  Speight gets the benefit of having everyone around him more comfortable in the offense, knowing where they are supposed to be going, etc.

That pass over the middle on 2nd and 11 early in the second q. Where I think he hit Darboh for a first down as he got smoked in the pocket was as NFL a throw as I've ever seen from a college QB. I was so impressed at the way he hung in the pocket yesterday. It was literally like watching Rothlisberger at times. I'm not a fan of a lot of the things about Rothlisberger, off the field, etc. but he does some things on the field that no other QB can do. Speight has reminded me of his play several times this year.

Speight has shown to improve every week. He has the ability to become one of the best QBs in college football in due time. I can see him having a fantastic season next year and putting our offensive a few steps ahead of where we are now. A really balanced rushing and passing game isn't something we've seen in a decade.

On a related, unrelated note, saw on twitter that Lions QB coach has high praise for Rudock's development this year and says he has a bright NFL future.

One thing that I really like seeing is Speight's strength.  The guy is a tall strong friggin athlete and seems to be able to shake off tackles that I think smaller QBs might not.  He also has a cannon for an arm.  Finally, I like the way not only he seems to be improving on deep balls but is incorporating advanced shit into his game like leading receivers with his head, eyes and ball placement on throws.

Those packages with Morris are beyond idiotic and frankly I thought we saw too much of Peppers at QB in the Sparty game. It can be effective in small doses but Speight in the passing game is more reliable at this point.

Peppers ran the read option at Paramus, so it's not that much of a stretch. Plus, the read option spreads the field out and isolates defensive players at a much more effective rate than the traditional sets. I think it's a good move, but I can see where u think it's used too much.
