MDen to hold midnight release party for Nike

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on
Since MDen now has made note of it on their site, I can make this post.

There will be a midnight release at the MDen on Campus on August 1st. More details will come out soon, but expect it to be a PARTY atmosphere with festivities.

I'm in no way a sneakerhead or gear-geek, but I'm pretty excited by this.

*I do own approximately 70 items of Michigan stuff.  Above statement a representation, not a warranty.

Hate to break it to you, but the Maize we had with adidas last year (real Maize) is what is going to be what we do with Nike.

Maize is defined as 255-203-5 with the University, and every Nike ad I've seen features that exact color.

Yet the maize the band wears, that's on the field, that Michigan wore for over 20 years before last, etc are all different. LOL at thinking some color wheel is going to define what Nike rolls out this fall. There is a reason they copyrighted the maize they had used for Michigan. Adidas made Michigan look like West Virginia. Just god awful.

The band is not outfitted by the athletic department and the field is highlighter that we wore with adidas.

The helmets were 255-203-5 as well. As were the stickers. Does adidas supply those as well?

The official pantone for the Michigan maize is 7406C, which is the more golden color that you're describing as "mustard colored"

There's not a lot of value to posting pictures you find online, as there is so much variation with cameras, editing, and lighting.  You can find pictures of last year's team where the maize looks very yellow as well.  It is heavily dependent on how/when the picture is taken

I was at every home game last year. It's mustard. The picture I posted looks exactly how it does in person. Any season ticket holder can tell you that. There ws a huge disconnect between the maize the team wore and the maize on the field and what the band wore. Looked like some amatuer shit.

I agree there was a difference in what we wore last year vs. what we wore the previous few years, there's no denying that. But it's hard to determine which one is the "correct" maize and I would argue that Adidas corrected their error of moving the maize to more of a bright yellow.

What we wore last year is a lot closer to the official color given by the University.  As far as what they wore 20 years ago, it becomes a pretty fruitless exercise trying to compare a picture from 1984 to one from last year.

Wisconsin did something in the same vein last night and it was not received well by some fans.  Thankfully, it seems like Michigan is planning to do things differently.
