OT: Euro 2016 Day Five

Submitted by Wolverine In Iowa on

Russia v. Slovakia at 8:00am CDT

Romania v. Switzerland at 11:00am CDT

France v. Albania at 2:00pm CDT

The rubber really hits the road here for these teams, as this is the second group match for all six of these teams.  France and Suisse can secure knockout round places with wins.  Russia has been threatened with expulsion from the tournament if Hotel Putingrad's boys cannot control themselves inside the stadium.

I see the first two games ending up as draws, while France dispatches Albania (who I still am having a hard time believing is in this tournament).

So is this the game where England fans start grabbing their collar and going 'ehhhh' after thinking they could take a lot of positives out of the Russia/England game despite the disappointing result? If Russia is the weak team in the group, then there's a lot of pressure to get 3 points on Wales.

I've seen this video about 5 times. It doesn't impress. Actually looks like the English run them up the steps. Russian ultras get credit for going 10-1 vs highly intoxicated English. Would almost bet that 75% of them test out for adrenaline or steroids.
The one bad thing about Russian ultras is that once you knock one down 10 other smaller ones appear.

I'm finding that my brain is running a different contest this summer, watching Copa America and Euro -- which country has the best TALENT at the games?

Not soccer talent, of cousre.

Right now -- and recognizing Euro is early -- I have ARGENTINA way out in front.  Man... I mean, man... some of the talent they have in the stands.  I'd have thought Brazil might be up there, but their talent has been subpar -- like their team.  There was one shot of a Mexican fan who, well, left me breathless, but in terms of overall talent, Argentina is killing it.  Maybe its the flak jackets everyone is wearing in France, but the talent in the stands at the Euro games hasn't been on par with the Copa games so far.

I lived in Paris during/after the bombings in the 80s. France has always struck me as a sort of police state that can't quite get the "police" part right. Lots of effort, good show. But you can't even get a fucking bottle of water into an American ballpark, never mind a flare.
