Anyone else hear about Lawtan Anderson possibly coming to Michigan?
I was listening to the recruiting roundup this morning and thought I heard that Latwan Anderson had his offer from OSU rescinded. There was no discussion of what may have happened, but I know he did not sign with anyone yet. He lists U of M as one of his top choices and according to Sam Webb, there has been some conversations going on between Michigan and Latwan, but an offer will not be extended without a visit first.
If we have the scholarship to give would it be wise for us to go after a 4* athlete or save it for Offensive linemen next year?

...he doesn't believe he's coming unless he comes for a visit. If he comes for a visit then all bets are off.

seeing as though his time line was to make a decision yesterday and announce it on the 17th, a visit seems unlikely.

It would be a lot easier to get to Michigan for a visit then to USC. You can drive to one and have to fly to the other. I still don't have much hope in this happening but we really have nothing to lose either.

Sam Webb also said the chances of L.A. coming were slim, but said if a visit was scheduled, he would change his mind on things. It sounded like L.A. was putting things out there and wanted to see what the University of Michigan did about it.

How likely are the chances of LA scheduling a visit?

Brian talked about this kid on the BHGP podcast last week. He supposedly was expelled for getting physical with a teacher, and that's why OSU rescinded their offer. I think that would be a pretty tough sell to any admissions board.

Couple things:
1. I'm not sure how much the "reported" ACT score can be believed. Prescott Burgess's Rivals profile lists him with a 2.9 GPA and a 16 ACT.
2. OSU knew about the alleged incident at St. Ed's a long time ago, along with everyone else. They didn't rescind any offer they had out to him because of it. They offered in the first place because Ginn Sr. took him under his wing at Glenville and gave Tressel the seal of approval.
3. I suspect this will all be moot as far as we're concerned. I doubt he visits at all.

Tom VH doesn't think this is likely from a previous post. Sam Webb says whatever is going on now is a very recent development. The previous thread on Latwan from this weekend couldn't even decide if "UM" was Miami or Michigan. We all now know it is Michigan.

Where does he project to play, corner or safety? Talk about depth and competition, if we land LA, we have addressed those issues in one class.

He's probably a corner. He's listed at 5'11" but I've read that he's probably about 5'8" or 5'9". That would be extremely small for a safety, but only kinda small for a corner.
He's also said that most teams are recruiting him to play corner.

How much do you think our current recruits are "cookin' the books" on this one and trying to convince Latwan to come here?

give him the snake oil!! yeeaaaaaaaah!

I don't have any insider info, but I think he stays at WV.

If he does come in, aren't we going to have to grayshirt another recruit? I'm still not clear on what exactly that means, but it seems like a small negative.
February 8th, 2010 at 1:29 PM ^
We will not grayshirt anyone.
A grayshirt means that the grayshirted recruit cannot participate in the 2010 football season. When a scholarship opens up in the winter, he can then become part of the 85 scholarship players.
Grayshirting anyone to make room for Latwan Anderson would be shady to the utmost degree, because all 27 recruits have signed their LOIs. Those 27 kids are tethered to the university and expect to play/practice/start college in September. We're not going to yank away a kid's scholarship who has already signed his LOI.

That is all.

But if he's already made a decision, then how could it be U-M without an offer?
February 9th, 2010 at 12:23 AM ^
He has an offer from UM.
His offer from OSU is the one that has been rescinded.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:06 AM ^
If Latwan called RR tomorrow and told him he wanted to sign an LOI, they would not send one. They want (and need) him to visit first. So in that sense, he does not have an "offer."

you know this how?
